Brockton Re-Signs Mike Smith

The Brockton Rox of the Can-Am League announced changes to the club’s pitching staff on Wednesday, as righthanded pitcher Mike Smith returns to the mound for the 2011 campaign, while also assuming the duties of pitching coach. Meanwhile, the Rox signed former Washington Nationals and Texas Rangers righthanded pitcher Travis Hughes, and Randolph, Mass., native and former Arizona Diamondbacks farmhand Mark Rosen.

Mike Smith Wins Star Of Stars Award

The official statistician of the Can-Am League, Pointstreak, has selected Brockton Rox RHP Mike Smith (Pictured) as the 2010 league’s “Star of Stars.” This award was given by Pointstreak to the player that had the best overall statistical performance in the league.

Chris Grossman & Mike Smith Named Postseason All-Stars In Can-Am League

The Can-Am League today announced its 2010 Postseason All-Star Team as voted upon by the league’s six field managers and media. The Brockton Rox led the team with four selections, including RHP Mike Smith (pictured), whose 12 wins lead the league while sitting in a close second in strikeouts (105) and ERA (2.97).

Mike Smith Lifts Brockton, Picks Up League-Leading Ninth Win

A four-run second capped by CF Chris Valencia’s two-run triple propelled Brockton past Pittsfield 5-3. 1B Melvin Falu had three hits in four tries for the Rox, and C Chris Grossman homered and doubled as part of a 2-for-3 night. Brockton RHP Mike Smith (pictured) picked up his fifth win in his last six starts to improve to 9-3 with a 2.99 ERA on the season. His nine wins lead the Can-Am League, while he sits third on the ERA leaderboard. RF Daniel Carte scored all three runs for the Colonials, and DH Angel Molina went 3-for-5 with two RBI.

Mike Smith Tosses Complete Game As Brockton Rox Roll Past Worcester Tornadoes

Brockton starting pitcher Mike Smith allowed one run on six hits while striking out eight and walking none in a complete game victory against Worcester. With the win, Smith ran his record to 3-1 on the season. Rox 1B Melvin Falu led the way offensively, going 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBI. 3B Phillip Cuadrado drove in Brockton's only other run. He finished the game 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Mike Smith Named Pitcher Of The Week In Can-Am League On June 14th

The Can-Am League announced today that Quebec Capitales OF Sebastien Boucher and Brockton Rox RHP Mike Smith (Pictured) have been named the Pointstreak Batter and Pitcher of the Week. The selection was made by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the Can-Am League.

Ex-Cardinals Watch 5-21-09: Mike Smith Signs Deal, Blaine Neal & Mike Rose Both Reassigned, Coco Crisp Hurting, Cecil Cooper Tossed

Cecil Cooper (Astros MGR):
Just when it looked as if the Astros would add some insurance to their lead over the Brewers on Thursday, an out call on a play at the plate by umpire Delfin Colon resulted in fireworks from Lance Berkman and Cecil Cooper, ending in the ejection of both the first baseman and manager. The call would prove costly, as the Astros would lose by one run, 4-3.

Dan Haren (Diamondbacks):
A.J. Hinch particularly looks forward to penciling in Dan Haren's name as the D-backs' starting pitcher on Saturday night in Oakland. Both have significant backgrounds with the A's, and both are going back to their roots.

Coco Crisp (Royals):
Coco Crisp got a break on Thursday when he was held out of the Royals' lineup against the Indians because of a sore right shoulder.

Was reassigned from Single-A Ogden to Double-A Chattanooga.

Mike Smith (Taiwan):
Starting pitcher Mike Smith (1-3, 2.86) has been placed on the suspended list, accepting a contract offer to pitch in Taiwan. He registered his only win of the season earlier this week, notching a victory Monday after registering 6 1/3 shutout innings. Smith promised to be one of the best pitchers in the league this season, regularly hitting 90 mph with pinpoint control.

York Revolution Pick Up Mike Smith For 2009 Season

The York Revolution have signed four more players, including three pitchers for the 2009 season, it was announced today by director of baseball operations Adam Gladstone. York’s all-time wins leader Wayne Franklin will suit up for a third season with the Revolution, while right-hander Dan Foli returns for another year. The team has also nabbed starter Mike Smith, and outfielder Ryan Goleski.
