Cardinals Optioned Genesis Cabrera, Junior Fernandez, Alex Reyes, & Andrew Knizner To Triple-A Memphis

Though baseball is on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, clubs are still free to sort out rosters to prepare for when the season begins. The Cardinals made their second round of cuts since the regular season was postponed, optioning Génesis Cabrera, Junior Fernandez, Alex Reyes and Andrew Knizner to Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.

Cardinals Optioned Jake Woodford, Edmundo Sosa, Austin Dean, & Justin Williams To Triple-A Memphis

The Cardinals made a series of roster moves Thursday, moving right-hander Jake Woodford, infielder Edmundo Sosa and outfielders Austin Dean and Justin Williams to the Triple-A Memphis roster. All are on the Cardinals’ 40-man roster.

When baseball halted spring training and delayed the start of the regular season a week ago, the Cardinals were in the process making cuts from their spring training roster. The uncertainty of the next 12 hours, let alone 24 or 48 hours put a pause on the transactions until the Cardinals received direction from Major League Baseball.

After a shoulder injury pushed him to the bullpen and ultimately to the role of the Cardinals’ closer last season, the right-hander is working to return to the rotation in 2020.

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today their 2020 minor league coaching staffs for their affiliate teams in addition to their player development and medical personnel for the upcoming season.

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have selected the contracts of infielder Elehuris Montero (pronounced eh-lay-rees), and right-handed pitchers Alvaro Seijas (say-hoss) and Jake Woodford. The team also announced that they designated for assignment right-handed pitcher Dominic Leone. Today’s transactions place the team’s 40-man Major League roster at 40 players.

Though Luis Robert is an outfielder and MacKenzie Gore is a left-handed pitcher, they have a lot in common. They both were highly touted prospects who commanded lavish bonuses in 2017, but injuries waylaid them during their first full professional season. Finally healthy in 2019, they dominated.
