MLB Considering Expanded Arizona, Florida Fall League

Although the possibility of a traditional minor league season grows slimmer by the day, there is good reason to believe every team’s prospects will get a chance to gain a large number of reps at some point this summer.

Catching Up Fast: About To Turn 20, Ivan Herrera's Potent Bat, Improving Defense Mask His Youth

It was only a sneak peek, a brief four-at-bat glimpse of Class AA’s rigors that the Cardinals offered catching prospect Ivan Herrera at the end of his first full summer playing in the United States. At 18, he was nearly six years younger than the average age in the Texas League, and the Cardinals didn’t hastily quantum-leap him four levels because of their need. They wanted to see what he learned.

John Nogowski Ready For Any Role In The Cards

John Nogowski tried hard to sleep in on his day off on Friday, but he still woke up at 7 a.m. -- a habit from the weeks of early report times that come with Spring Training. The early rise, though, allowed Nogowski to reflect on the first half of his first big-league camp, and to do that, all he had to do was open his journal.

By the end of his first week at High-A Palm Beach last year, Kodi Whitley was gone, promoted, shipped swiftly to Class AA Springfield, where he got to find his footing for two months and then, before the Texas League became too familiar, he was on the go again, headed for Class AAA Memphis.

Pipeline Q&A: Ivan Herrera

Catcher Ivan Herrera, the Cardinals’ No. 4 prospect, signed out of Panama in July 2016 for $200,000. He’s quickly established himself as one of the better catching prospects in baseball, one who carries a career .309/.397/.431 line into the 2020 season. Still a teenager, the Cardinals thought enough of him to send him to the Arizona Fall League in '19, where he more than held his own.

Conner Capel Growing With The Cardinals

To reflect back on July 31, 2018, Cardinals fans will think of it as the day the team traded Tommy Pham to the Rays in a deal that is still hard to get behind more than a year later. On the same day, in a move that (in a sense, due to roster capacity) stemmed off the Pham trade, St. Louis sent Oscar Mercado to the Indians for prospects. One of those prospects is Conner Capel, and he has really settled in to his new organization.
