Historically, many of the picks from what ordinarily is a 40-round process sign quickly and jet off to Jupiter, Fla., for some workouts and then are assigned to teams in the minor-league system.

Recent History Preps Cardinals For New-Look Draft
Randy Flores is no stranger to unusual circumstances with the MLB Draft. Hired as the Cardinals' director of scouting in 2016, his first Draft featured three of the first 34 picks -- which he used on Delvin Perez, Dakota Hudson and Dylan Carlson. The latter two will appear in the Majors when baseball returns. In '17, Flores dealt with the penalties from the Cardinals' hacking scandal and didn’t have the first pick until No. 94.

It's Looking More & More Like There Will Be Zero MLB Games Played This Year
I got pretty excited when a few days ago Major League Baseball players launched an idea to play 114 games in a schedule that would run from the beginning of July through the end of June.

Short Story, Long Process: Delvin Perez Seeks Production To Pay Off Cardinals' Patience
After 20 consecutive games to start last season batting at the backend of Low-A Peoria’s lineup, never higher than eighth, shortstop Delvin Perez came to the ballpark the day after hitting No. 9 as a DH in a doubleheader to find his name at leadoff. He would bat first or second in 97 of his next 98 games, even as his on-base percentage dipped to .275 through June.

Second Thoughts: Mateo Gil Offers A Short Answer At Position Cardinals Have Covered For Years To Come
As the shift happened within their minor-league system and the Cardinals could spread talent to areas beyond a traditional strength — pitching development is the calling card — they filled in open crevices at the corners and added another layer of options for the outfield. The depth chart that once looked like a doughnut had more substance and greater density, becoming more of a boiled bagel.

These Are The Best Gloves In The NL Central
Few things are prettier than an outfielder racing to chase down a hard-hit ball in the gap, leaving his feet in a full dive to pluck the ball from the air before crashing to the ground with the ball securely in his glove. Or a third baseman flashing catlike reflexes to snag a screamer up the line. Greater still, the infielder who leaps skyward to strike down a sure single and preserve a no-hitter. And how about the guys who routinely make the impossible plays look effortless?

Cardinals shortstop Paul DeJong and Dr. Lawrence Rocks, noted chemist, talk with Post-Dispatch baseball writer about Major League Baseball's plans to keep players healthy and start the 2020 regular season. Dr. Rocks argues that baseball could lead the way by eventually providing fans with masks to increase health, and DeJong outlines how the players are eager to return, with some modifications to the plan, and discusses how he and a few teammates have been staying sharp in St. Louis. By the time he came to the plate for his second at-bat after the fanfare of his arrival, the buzz created by Dylan Carlson’s presence in the Cardinals’ lineup for the first time on May 8, 2020, had likely subsided, rocked to sleep like the lineup itself by Jacob deGrom.

Paul DeJong Waiting For Baseball Just Like The Fans
Cardinals shortstop Paul DeJong is no different than the great fans who cheer for him. He misses baseball too! Fox 2 Sports Director Martin Kilcoyne talked to the slugging shortstop on Thursday. DeJong talked about a special baseball card that Topps has produced in his likeness to help promote education for kids. They also talked baseball. DeJong admitted that he has driven past Busch Stadium during the coronavirusa shutdown and wonders what it would be like to play there possibly without the normal 40 thousand Cardinals fans each night.
