Second Thoughts: Mateo Gil Offers A Short Answer At Position Cardinals Have Covered For Years To Come

As the shift happened within their minor-league system and the Cardinals could spread talent to areas beyond a traditional strength — pitching development is the calling card — they filled in open crevices at the corners and added another layer of options for the outfield. The depth chart that once looked like a doughnut had more substance and greater density, becoming more of a boiled bagel.

Dylan Carlson Leads Fast-Moving Cardinals Prospects

It was a big year for the Cardinals, who reached the postseason for the first time since 2015. But while the "Best Fans in Baseball" missed a Red October, they got to see a lot of exciting youngsters, with Dakota Hudson, Harrison Bader, Jordan Hicks and Tyler O'Neill contributing in St. Louis.
