Ex-Cardinals Watch 9-22-09: Cecil Cooper Fired; Brett Tomko Shut Down; Braden Looper Sets HR Record; Rick Honeycutt Following In Dave Duncan's Path
Cecil Cooper (Free Agent):
Coming off a disheartening road trip in which they went 0-6 against division rivals Cincinnati and Milwaukee and played nothing short of lackluster baseball, the Astros decided they couldn't wait until the end of the season to make a managerial change.
Astros Official Site
Lance Berkman has been with the Astros longer than any other current player and is no stranger to managerial changes, having seen Jimy Williams, Phil Garner and now Cecil Cooper dismissed in-season. Still, Berkman said it doesn't make it any easier to see a manager lose his job.

Brett Tomko, Clayton Mortensen, Brett Wallace, & Shane Peterson (Athletics):
I know you answered a question similar to this one a while back, but now that we're at the end of the year, I want to throw it at you again? What do you think the starting rotation is going to look like next year? Is Brett Tomko a part of it?

One of the better stories of the A's season, albeit a short story, came to an end on Monday when right-hander Brett Tomko was declared finished for the season.

Braden Looper (Brewers):
The franchise records continued to fall at Miller Park, but Braden Looper wanted no part of this one.

Rick Honeycutt (Dodgers Pitching Coach):
How has Rick Honeycutt done as the Dodgers' pitching coach?
"He's been here four years and we've been near the top in the league in ERA every year," said general manager Ned Colletti, who provides Honeycutt the arms that currently lead the league in staff ERA, as they did last year. "We fast-track a lot of our young pitchers and there's a lot of teaching on the fly."

Wayne Lundgren & Chris Grossman (Brockton):
The Brockton Rox of the Can-Am League excercised their options for the 2010 season.
Jason Marquis (Rockies):
Jason Marquis apparently holds no grudge toward the Mets for their lack of interest in him last winter.
NY Post
Keith Hernandez (Mets Announcer):
He didn't take the stand, but one of the biggest names in New York Met history loomed large in Manhattan federal court yesterday as the fourth trial of John "Junior" Gotti got under way.
A chronic gambler who once worked for the Mets testified that he pretended to place bets for Keith Hernandez while racking up a massive debt to a Gotti-run gambling ring in 1984.
NY Post
Daric Barton (Athletics):
Daric Barton missed Monday's game and is day-to-day with a sore heel. Barton, who is hitting .375 in his past eight games, was hurt trying to score from first on a Scott Hairston double Sunday.
