Major League Baseball’s most proven external supply of talent is also the source of some of their biggest challenges. The Dominican Republic, birth home of Albert Pujols and literally hundreds of players over the recent decades, including about 10 percent of current major leaguers, is rife with problems. Among them are falsified player identities and birth dates, performance enhancing drugs and unscrupulous agents.

Cardinals Release Seven From Minor League Camp

The St. Louis Cardinals’ minor-league staff has released seven players from their camp this morning, including one of the biggest power bats in the organization. First baseman Matt Arburr, a hulking slugger known for his light-tower shots during spring training, and six others were released Tuesday, and they are now minor-league free agents.
