Midland Prevails In Slugfest Over Springfield

Joe Kelly's recent arrival to the Texas League was reason to get excited, with a resume that read as follows:

Slugfest Goes To Midland 15-12

Scoring eight unanswered runs, the Springfield Cardinals looked to be on the verge of a dramatic comeback.
Joe Kelly got roughed up in his Double-A debut, and two relievers weren’t much better Sunday night as the Springfield Cardinals lost 15-12 to the Midland RockHounds despite one of their more inspired rallies at Hammons Field.
Scoring eight unanswered runs, the Springfield Cardinals looked to be on the verge of a dramatic comeback.

Those hopes took a huge hit one half inning later. Back-to-back home runs in the eighth, one of which was a grand slam, quickly extinguished any chance for a Cardinal win, and Springfield fell to Midland 15-12.

Alex Castellanos Back In Springfield Lineup Against Midland

His left elbow struck by a pitch on Friday, outfielder Alex Castellanos is back in the starting lineup for the Springfield Cardinals on Sunday night. He sat out Saturday’s game against Frisco.

Frisco Rallies Past Springfield 5-3

All set to pick up his first win since May 20, luck ran out on Kevin Thomas once again.

Leaving the game in the sixth inning with a 2-1 lead, Thomas' win was lost the very next inning as Frisco rallied for two runs on a single by Engel Beltre and a wild pickoff attempt.

The second appearance in big-leaguer Eduardo Sanchez’s injury rehab assignment had disappointing results, as the St. Louis Cardinals reliever allowed the tying and go-ahead runs to the Frisco RoughRiders in the seventh.
