CALLED UP: Promoted from Triple-A Colorado Springs when rosters expanded.

DEBUT: Sept. 9 in a 4-3 win against Cincinnati. Came on at second base defensively in a double-switch and did not have an at-bat.

NOTES: McCoy made his big league debut at age 28, coming up from the SkySox after showing defensive versatility with time at second base, third, shortstop and all three outfield positions. He hit .307 with 27 doubles, 102 runs scored and 40 steals, ranking among the Minor League leaders in runs scored and leading the team with a .405 on-base percentage. He was a 34th-round pick in 2002 by St. Louis.

Cust, Mark Ellis, Cliff Pennington, Daric Barton and Kurt Suzuki all homered for Oakland, helping rookie pitcher Clayton Mortensen earn his first big league win in just his third career start. The five homers were the most for the A's since June 17, 2008, when they hit six at Arizona.

Wright, a starter for most of his career, has been manager Trey Hillman's iron-man reliever. Going into Saturday's game with the Indians, Wright had pitched far more innings than any other reliever and performed well in those outings.

With outfielder Coco Crisp expected to rejoin the club for Thursday’s series finale, the Royals must make a roster move to clear space. Crisp missed the series’ first two games while on bereavement leave following the death of his great grandmother.

Players on bereavement leave do not count against a club’s 25-man active roster. Barring an injury, the player most at risk appears to be infielder Tug Hulett, who has just three at-bats in eight games since his May 23 recall from Omaha.

Outfielder Brian Barton was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett before Wednesday's game. He pinch-ran for Francoeur in the ninth inning and was caught stealing. Pitcher Jorge Campillo was placed on the 15-day DL with right shoulder tendinitis to make room on the roster.

Emil Brown (Mets):
The Mets filled the void on their 25-player roster created by Martinez's injury by purchasing the contract of right-handed-hitting veteran outfielder Emil Brown from their Triple-A Buffalo affiliate. He was to have joined the Mets for Wednesday's game. Brown, 34, had been acquired, for a player to be named, from the Padres last week and assigned to Buffalo. He was batting .315 in four games.

J.D. Drew (Red Sox):
The new 1-2 punch of Pedroia and J.D. Drew paid off right out of the gate in this one. Pedroia led off the game with a single up the middle and Drew followed by clubbing a two-run homer to right. It was No. 200 of Drew's career, and it gave Beckett a 2-0 lead before he even threw a pitch.

Jason Marquis (Rockies):
Marquis gave up three runs on five hits, just one of them hard, and a walk in the first inning but, as Tracy said, "did a tremendous job recovering" until Pence's leadoff homer in the seventh. Charged with five runs in six innings, Marquis has given up 14 runs, 13 earned, and 20 hits in 9 2/3 innings in his two starts against the Astros this season.

The Tigers lead the American League in ERA, but they are ninth in team batting average at .268. They have one player with an average over .300, with Miguel Cabrera hitting .351. Besides that, other key veterans have had relatively quiet bats thus far such as Magglio Ordonez (.276, 19 RBIs), Curtis Granderson (.272) and Placido Polanco (.251, one home run).

Miguel Flores (New Hampshire):
The American Defenders of New Hampshire of the Canadian American Association have signed right-handed pitcher Miguel Flores to a contract for the 2009 season.

Flores, 21, was a 16th round (485th overall) pick by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2008 amateur draft. He was assigned to the Gulf Coast League Cardinals to start the season and went on to make 12 appearances (three starts) posting a 1-2 record, 3.19 ERA, and earned one save. The Cerritos Junior College product was promoted in late-August to Johnson City for the remainder of the 2008 campaign. While in the Appalachian League, Flores made two appearances (one start) and putting together a 1-0 record and didn't allow a single earned run over 7.1 innings.

Flores was released by the organization during minor league camp this past spring.
