Cardinals Release Three Minor Leaguers

The St. Louis Cardinals released three Latin American players, including one who reached Quad Cities in 2007.

Reinstated from inactive list and released: Wilmer Alvarado.
Outrighted off 40-man: Matt Scherer and Joe Thurston.

Former Cardinals:
Chris Lambert was outrighted off the 40-man roster by Orioles.
Edgar Gonzalez was outrighted off the 40-man roster by Padres.
Chris Richard was outrighted off the 40-man roster and granted free agency by Rays.
Tyler Herron was released by the Pirates.

I love boldness. I loved the Angels trade for Mark Teixeira (.383/472/.617 in 16 games). I loved the Manny Ramirez trade for both the Red Sox and the Dodgers (for whom Ramirez has delivered .424/.514/.780 in 16 games).

The 25-35 Cards rookie-level club went 2-3 on the week, their second to the last of the season. At this point, a reasonable goal is to try to escape last place.
