Center fielder Tyler Bighames, a minor-leaguer with the St. Louis Cardinals Gulf Coast League affiliate, was suspended 50 games for a second positive test, Major League Baseball announced Monday. The release from the MLB offices said Bighames tested positive for a “drug of abuse” each time.

Estero shortstop Tyler Bighames was selected early in the draft’s third and last day of picks. Bighames went in the 31st round (939th overall) to the St. Louis Cardinals. Bighames was committed to play at the University of Oregon, but his family told NBC2 shortly after he was drafted that he expects to sign with the Cardinals and forgo college. If so, he will report to Cardinals camp in Jupiter early next week to begin his pro career.
