Reid Price Keeping Dreams Alive In Independent Leagues

“What's really surprising is you make more money here,” said Price, who was drafted by St. Louis in the 29th round of the 2005 draft but has been in independent leagues since 2006.

“As far as contracts (not counting MLB draftees' signing bonuses), there's more money in independent baseball, which is just so they lure players,” Price said. “We have guys on our team who were in Triple-A last year, and they're making $1,000 more per month this year.”

"One of the things that I'm teaching to them a lot is that we're going to become ground ball pitchers," Beltran said. "When you become a ground ball pitcher, you're going after the strike zone with every pitch. I don't want them nitpicking. I want them to attack the bottom of the strike zone with every pitch."
