Ex-Cardinal Watch 6-8-09: Chad Gabriel, Spike Lundberg, Zack Pitts, & Reid Price All Sign Deals; Daric Barton Called Up; & Much More

Josh Pearce (Retired):
Josh Pearce, No. 82 (St. Louis), P, Univ. of Arizona (West Valley HS, Yakima)

Pearce made it to the major leagues for parts of three seasons with the Cardinals (2002-04), appearing in 13 games (three starts). But recurring shoulder problems ended his career in 2005. He is now student-teaching at Highland High School in Cowiche, Wash., while serving as a volunteer coach for his alma mater, West Valley of Yakima.

Daric Barton (Athletics):
While the news of Sweeney is obviously unfortunate, the outfielder's first DL stint of the season didn't come as much of a surprise as the choice to recall one of Sweeney's best buddies, Daric Barton, from Triple-A Sacramento to take his spot on the roster.

Dan Haren & Blaine Boyer (Diamondbacks):
Dan Haren wanted to set the record straight on his frustration following the D-backs' 18-inning win Sunday afternoon.

(Further Down) The D-backs will make a roster move Tuesday if Blaine Boyer reports. Boyer, a right-hander, was claimed off waivers from the Cardinals on Monday. Boyer has 72 hours to report.

The Grand Prairie Air Hogs of The American Association signed him to a contract for the 2009 season.

Spike Lundberg (Lancaster):
The Lancaster Barnstormers of the Atlantic League signed him to a contract for the 2009 season.

Junior Spivey (Camden):
The Camden Riversharks of the Atlantic League reinstated him to the active list.

Zack Pitts (Washington):
The Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League signed him to a contract for the 2009 season.

Reid Price (Tucson):
The Tucson Toros of the Golden Baseball League signed him to a contract for the 2009 season.
