College baseball has produced a galaxy of stars. The greatest hitter and pitcher of the last 50 years, Barry Bonds (Arizona State) and Roger Clemens (Texas), turned in memorable College World Series performances before entering pro ball. Last year's major award winners include Old Dominion's Justin Verlander (American League Cy Young), Stetson's Jacob deGrom (National League Cy Young) and Florida's Pete Alonso (NL Rookie of the Year).

Masters Of The Low-Hanging Fruit
If you came here hoping for a negative attack on the shrewd ways of the St. Louis Cardinals’ front office then you are going to be thoroughly disappointed. I am a huge fan of John Mozeliak and the entire operation that he spearheads.

If Cardinals Don't Have A Second Baseman, They'll Make One
Whether he was discussing Anthony Reyes as starter, Ryan Ludwick as cleanup hitter or, more recently, Mitchell Boggs as closer, St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa says there are "boxes" that must be checked when it comes to taking over those roles. They're job prerequisites, hurdles that must be cleared for consideration, and La Russa usually has a litany of them.

The Curse Of Scott Rolen
The last time a team from the National League Central won a postseason series, Scott Rolen authored a 10-game playoff hitting streak, was a week removed from one of the lowest points in his career, and seemed ready to embrace his place as the St. Louis Cardinals' unparalleled fixture at third base as enthusiastically as he did Albert Pujols seconds after clinching the World Series.

The NL Central Offseason Revue Part Two: The Red Menace
I decided I'm going to try and do these in order from best to worst in the division; unfortunately, that now means I have to try and come up with preseason predictions before the offseason is even half over. Not a great idea on my part, really; I should have done them in alphabetical order or something. Oh, well. Too late for such considerations now, I suppose.
