Extensive Cardinals Spring Training Broadcast Coverage Begins Saturday
February isn’t even over, but the Cardinals’ spring training schedule starts rolling early this year as exhibition play in Florida opens Saturday. And broadcasts of the team’s Grapefruit League action will be extensive, as there are no days in the more than a month of practice games that no live coverage is planned.

Matt Holliday's Absence Not Inconsequential For The Cardinals
We don’t talk much about Matt Holliday these days. It’s been awhile since he was one of the best players in baseball. Probably the last time you could have honestly made that claim was in 2014, when his 132 wRC+ was 28th-best in the game. However, with the news that Holliday has probably succumbed to his thumb injury for the rest of the season, I thought we would take a minute to talk about Holliday. Holliday can’t do most of the things he used to, but even after all this time can still hit.

Prospectus Perspective: The NL MVP Rout
On Friday, I struck a cautionary note about the nature of progress in voting. It's a great, good, and happy thing, of course, but one vote is just that. It was a lone data point, not a trend, and certainly not evidence of some massive shift in the electorate, either generationally or as a reflection of the broader use and applied knowledge of the better pitching metrics most of you reading this are already aware of. Admittedly, a lot of that was rooted in my natural capacity to nag and counterpunch—I'm often a scrupulous bore when it comes to pointing out silver linings or lone storm clouds. It's a way to make conversation, after all.

Cardinals Look To Set New High - In Lineup's Uniform Numbers
Although the Cardinals have been all but mathematically eliminated, they still have, in the words on the Iron Horse, an awful lot to live for, such as individual awards. And now with their Memphis callups, sporting spring-training numbers on their uniforms, they also have an opportunity to set a new season-high: the sum of their starting lineup’s uniform numbers.
