Ex-Cardinals Watch 7-25-09: Terry Evans Optioned; Troy Cate & Junior Spivey Sign Deals; Charles Carter Released; Ben Julianel Hits D.L.

Terry Evans (Angels):
Bidding farewell was outfielder Terry Evans, who was serving as outfield support for two days. Evans rejoins his old buddies at Triple-A Salt Lake, where he was batting .290 with 19 homers and 66 RBIs. Evans did not get into a game with the Angels.

Brett Wallace, Shane Peterson, & Clayton Mortensen (Athletics):
Less than two weeks ago, Brett Wallace got a taste of what it would be like to represent the St. Louis Cardinals in Busch Stadium when he started at third base in the XM Radio All-Star Futures Game. Little did he know that would be as close as he'd come to playing in front of Cardinals Nation full-time.

The A's had their first shot at Brett Wallace about a year ago. They took a pass, though, electing to take Jemile Weeks with the No. 12 pick in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft instead.

Felipe Lopez (Brewers):
Felipe Lopez was eager to make a proper home debut for the Brewers. His achy right hamstring did not cooperate.

David Eckstein (Padres):
If all goes according to plan, the Padres will activate second baseman David Eckstein from the 15-day disabled list in the next few days.

Jack Wilson (Pirates):
While there's no telling whether the Pirates' middle-infield pair will remain together beyond next Friday, the two might be able to take the field together again as soon as Saturday.

Ben Julianel (Rockies):
Triple-A Colorado Springs placed him on the 7-day disabled list with a left ankle sprain.

Charles Carter (Free Agent):
The Fort Worth Cats of the American Association released him.

Troy Cate (Blue Jays):
The Long Island Ducks today announced that Troy Cate has been signed by the Toronto Blue Jays organization and assigned to their Double-A affiliate, New Hampshire of the Eastern League. The starter became the Flock’s first seven-game winner on Wednesday, July 22 and was impressive down the stretch winning four straight with a 3.52 ERA over that span. Cate becomes the fifth Duck in 2009 to sign with an affiliated club.

Junior Spivey (Tucson):
The Tucson Toros of the independent Golden Baseball League announced the signing Friday of former Arizona Diamondbacks standout Junior Spivey, who was a National League All-Star in 2002.
