Ex-Cardinals Watch 7-29-09: David Eckstein Activated; Daric Barton Hits D.L.; Jeff Suppan & Russell Branyan Hurting; Dan Haren Staying Put

Dan Haren (Diamondbacks):
Lest we start wondering if another ace might be thrust into the midseason swap meet, one senior Diamondbacks official said emphatically Tuesday morning that Dan Haren isn't going anywhere.

Haren is under contract through 2013. He's been among the best pitchers in baseball this year — 10-5 record, 2.14 ERA, 141 strikeouts in 143 innings — and figures to be entering his prime at age 28.

"We're not trading him," the Arizona official said. "We don't want to change our core."
Fox Sports

Having watched Haren throw all 117 of those pitches in what tied his shortest outing of the year, Hinch decided to remove his ace after five.
Diamondbacks Official Site

Jack Wilson (Pirates):
Minnesota remains interested in Toronto shortstop Marco Scutaro and Pittsburgh shortstop Jack Wilson, the source said Tuesday afternoon.
Fox Sports

Gerard Haran (Lancaster):
Gerard Haran was pondering his future. Only 23, he had been cut by the Atlantic League's Newark Bears and he wasn't sure he wanted to play baseball again.
Lancaster Online

Daric Barton (Athletics):
No matter. He's in the big leagues now, called up to take the roster spot vacated by disappointed first baseman Daric Barton, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring. Barton suffered the injury Sunday while stretching to take a throw at Yankee Stadium.
Athletics Official Site

Adam Kennedy (Athletics):
Ellis doubled for his career-high-tying fourth hit, Davis broke the tie with another RBI single, and Adam Kennedy's career-high fifth hit helped Oakland to a stunning 9-8 victory in the second game of a four-game series at Fenway Park.
Athletics Official Site

Jeff Suppan (Brewers):
Jeff Suppan's next Brewers start is in limbo after the right-hander was diagnosed with a rib-cage injury on Tuesday, potentially poking another hole in a Brewers starting rotation that is beginning to resemble a brick of Swiss cheese.
Brewers Official Site

Russell Branyan (Mariners):
Wakamatsu said Russell Branyan and Jose Lopez, both out with soreness in their backs, could be back in the lineup on Wednesday. Both sat on Monday and Tuesday.
Mariners Official Site

Jim Riggleman (Nationals MGR):
Since becoming interim manager of the Nationals, Jim Riggleman has a held a team meeting after every game. The sessions last no more than a few minutes.
All Nats All The Time

David Eckstein (Padres):
A day after activating Henry Blanco from the 15-day disabled list, the Padres also activated second baseman David Eckstein from the 15-day DL, as expected.
Padres Official Site

Jason Marquis (Rockies):
Jason Marquis (12-7) didn't have his best stuff, but that was not because of his blistered middle finger. Marquis said he was surprised at how good he felt on the mound, adding that he was able to employ his regular grip on his sinker for the first time in a few weeks.

Jim Leyland (Tigers):
Jim Leyland does not have a team of baserunning threats. But he's having to make them run the bases to get offensive threats going.

Jess Todd (Indians):
Triple-A Columbus activated him.

Juan Gonzalez (Puerto Rican Team):
For the preselection, the best hitters were Juan "Igor" Gonzalez and Ben Candelaria, and 3-2 for a career driven individual. (Translated)

Ex-Cardinals Watch 6-1-09: Gerard Haran Signs Deal; Jose Garcia Hits D.L.; Coco Crisp Placed On Bereavement List; Jorge Sosa & Dmitri Young Plans

Dmitri Young (Nationals):
What will the Nats do with first baseman Dmitri Young if and when he is ready to return?
-- Kevin W., Ellicott City, Md.

That's a great question. I don't know how he fits in with the club. It appears the Nationals are not in a rush to bring him back. I think he would be a good player coming off the bench.
Nationals Official Site

Jorge Sosa (Nationals):
When Jorge Sosa returns to Triple-A Syracuse, will he become a reliever or a starter? I hope that he starts, because his best years have been as a starter. -- Breanna, G., Laurel, Md.

Sosa is pitching for Syracuse right now, and the Nationals see him as a reliever. In order for him to get innings, however, Sosa has been a starter for Syracuse. In his first two appearances, he has given up seven runs in 11 innings.
Nationals Official Site

Jamie Moyer (Phillies):
The Mayor of Philadelphia and Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan were among those who called Jamie Moyer over the past two days to congratulate the 46-year-old lefty on winning his 250th Major League game against the Nationals on Sunday in Philadelphia.
Phillies Official Site

Mike Lincoln (Reds):
In a nice show of fortitude, the Reds turned Baker's frown upside down with a 5-3 win over the Cardinals. It came courtesy of heavy lifting by five members of the bullpen, which dealt eight innings and allowed only two runs -- one earned. Mike Lincoln (1-0) pitched three innings and was followed by two innings from Daniel Herrera and one inning each by Nick Masset, Arthur Rhodes and Francisco Cordero, who made it 14-for-14 in save chances.
Reds Official Site

Coco Crisp (Royals):
Soria twitters, of course. Mark Teahen and Coco Crisp do too.

Center fielder Coco Crisp was placed on the bereavement list Monday by the Royals and he will miss the team's three-game series at Tampa Bay.

Ex-Cardinals Watch 5-18-09: Alberto Castillo & Chad Gabriel Sign Deals, Gerard Haran Released, Mariners Interested In Jack Wilson, Chris Richard POTW

Jack Wilson (Pirates):
Still, the night largely belonged to Wilson. The double was one of four hits, which included another double and a triple. The four-hit game was the 13th of Wilson's career and upped his RBI total since returning seven days ago to seven.
Pirates Official Site

Speaking of Betancourt, my sources tell me the team has been sniffing around potential deals to bolster their middle infield. One scenario would see the Mariners send Betancourt to the Pittsburgh Pirates for veteran shortstop Jack Wilson.
The Seattle Times

Chris Richard (Rays):
Triple-A International League Offensive Player Of The Week
.429 (12-28), 6 R, 5 2B, 0 3B, 3 HR, 13 RBI, 2 BB, 3 SO, 0 SB
Outfielder Chris Richard went a perfect 3-for-3 on Tuesday, but that was hardly the highlight of his week. On Friday, the slugger became the first International League player in more than 50 years to hit two grand slams in one game. Thanks partly to his Friday performance, he collected a third of his season total in homers and nearly half his RBI output. The 2008 International League midseason All-Star struggled at the beginning of the year, consistently batting below .200, but has raised his average to .281 with the recent hot streak.
MiLB

Braden Looper (Brewers):
In his first start against his former team, Braden Looper tossed the Brewers' Major League-leading 24th quality start, hurling six-plus innings and giving up just one earned run. His lone blemish was a two-run home run by the Cardinals' Colby Rasmus in the seventh inning.
Brewers Official Site

Dan Haren (Diamondbacks):
Monday starter Dan Haren, who gave up a run in his three unofficial innings, will start either Friday or Saturday -- depending on how he feels leading up to the weekend.
Diamondbacks Official Site

Jason Isringhausen (Rays):
Jason Isringhausen joined the Rays on Monday, which is welcome news to Tampa Bay's overworked bullpen.
Rays Official Site

Jason Marquis (Rockies):
Marquis turned it around against his former team, pitching eight gutsy innings as the Rockies beat the Braves, 5-1, at Turner Field. Marquis allowed just one run on five hits and induced four double plays. The strong outing not only ended a personal slide for Marquis, but also could breathe life into a Colorado team that had lost seven of its past 10 games before Monday.
Rockies Official Site

Alberto Castillo (Newark) & Gerard Haran (Free Agent):
The Newark Bears of the Atlantic League released catcher Gerard haran and signed Alberto Castillo to replace him.

Chad Gabriel (Chico):
The Chico Outlaws of the Golden Baseball League signed Chad Gabriel to a contract for the 2009 season.
