Because Turner signed a Major League deal, he immediately goes on the 40-man, even though he won't be pitching in games for a while. We know it wasn't to make room for Aubrey Huff, because the Tigers announced they moved Joel Zumaya to the 60-day DL for that.

At first glance, a guy turning 34 in December doesn't seem an automatic extension candidate for what is essentially a rebuilding team.

Chris Lambert (Tigers):
Detroit general manager Dave Dombrowski announced after Tuesday's 8-2 loss to the Orioles that the Tigers have recalled 26-year-old pitcher Chris Lambert from Triple-A Toledo and purchased the contract of catcher Alex Avila from Double-A Erie. Both players will be available for Wednesday's game against Baltimore at Comerica Park.

Troy Cate (Long Island):
The Long Island Ducks today announced that Troy Cate has been re-signed after receiving his release from the Toronto Blue Jays organization and their Double-A affiliate, New Hampshire of the Eastern League. Cate became the fifth Duck in 2009 to sign with an affiliated club when he was picked up by the Blue Jays on July 27.
