Randy Winn Hits Stride As Orioles Topple Pirates

Winn, who entered the contest batting .182 with no homers or RBIs, went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two runs scored. The journeyman outfielder, who is a longshot to make the team, went yard off Pirates starter Kevin Correia in the fifth inning, a play that caused center fielder Andrew McCutchen to lose his glove. McCutchen nimbly hopped the fence to collect his mitt and was greeted with rousing applause.

Cesar Izturis Ankle Improving

Cesar Izturis said his left ankle feels a lot better today. He rolled it during Monday's split-squad game in Fort Myers and couldn't make yesterday's trip to Clearwater. The swelling has gone down and he could return to the lineup by the end of the week.

Izturis will hit and run today to test the ankle. He received treatment on it three times yesterday and iced it after he left the ballpark.

"There's no pain," he said. "It's good."

Cesar Izturis Arrives In Orioles Camp

All but five position players have now reported to camp, with Winn, Pie, Bell, Nick Green, Cesar Izturis and Nolan Reimold among those to show up on Friday. The report date for all position players is Sunday with the first official workout Monday. Nick Markakis, Derrek Lee, Ryan Adams, Luke Scott and Pedro Florimon are the five that have yet to report.

It wasn’t just the tragedy of his wife being found dead at their suburban Phoenix home after an overdose of cocaine and lidocaine on May 20, 2009. For years he had dealt with her addiction.

Schoeneweis had tough seasons on the field in 2009 (1-2, 7.13 ERA for Arizona) and last year, when he went 1-0 with a 7.90 ERA in 15 appearances for the Red Sox.
