Week In Review:

The Cardinals opened the week at home against the Angels.  Junior Gonzalez started for the Redbirds and had another strong performance going five innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, two walks, and striking out three.  Elehuris Montero plated two runs of the four runs for the Cardinals in the first innings.  Dariel Gomez added runs in the fourth and fifth innings.  The Redbirds' bullpen was able to keep the game on the winning side, despite giving up three runs over final three innings, and went on to win 8-4.

The Cardinals went on the road to face the Angels in the second game of the two-setter.  Franyel Casadilla, the ace of the staff, went six innings giving up five hits, one earned run, struck three out, and created eleven ground outs.  Starlin Balbuena led the at the plate for the Cardinals collecting four hits (three doubles), one walk, and drove in two runs.  Elehuris Montero came through in his second straight game with two runs batted in.  The Angels might off took the early lead, but the Redbirds put five on the board in the mid-to-late innings for the 5-4 victory.

The Cardinals hosted the Astros Orange in the beginning of a two-game set.  Oneiver Diaz had a decent outing striking out seven over six innings, but did allow three runs.  However the offense didn't show up for the Redbirds as they only connected for six hits, one for extra bases, and six walks.  Frendy Gavin was the highlight, out of the bullpen, striking out two of four batters and Andres Luna reached base on a single, double, and walk.  The Astros Orange kept the Cardinals off the board for the first seven frames and won 5-1.

The Cardinals returned to the road in the second game of the set against the Astros Orange.  Will Changarotty, getting another chance as starter, gave up seven hits, one earned run, and struck four out over five innings.  The Redbirds took advantage of some mishaps to score runs and take the lead 3-2 in the seventh.  Noel DeJesus and Estailin Tejada combined for the final two scoreless innings and Sanel Rosendo put an exclamation point on the 5-2 win with a two-run homer in the ninth.

The Cardinals stayed on the road to face the Nationals.  The Redbirds offense opened the flood gates in the first inning, loading up the bases and scoring five runs.  Juan Alvarez took it from there and tossed six innings, allowing six hits, one earned run, struck two out, and induced ten ground outs.  The Cardinals added another seven runs over the eight and ninth innings with Starlin Balbuena, again, the star at the plate as he contributed four singles and two RBIs.  The Redbirds easily won 12-2.

The Cardinals hosted the Nationals in the final game of this report.  The Redbirds offense got going right in the beginning Irving Wilson doubled in a run, Sanel Rosendo doubled in two runs, and Dariel Gomez tripled in two runs all in the first inning.  Gomez came through with another RBI in the second to put the Cardinals up 7-0 after two.  The Nationals took advantage of errors and scored six runs over the next five frames.  Fabian Blanco and Cristhian Lugo tag teamed for the final two scoreless innings and the Redbirds won 7-6.
