The Dominican Summer League Cardinals extended their winning streak to two games to begin the week then took three of the next five games.  The Redbirds are 14-17 with a .452 PCT and 11 games out of first place in a two-way tie for third in the Boca Chica North Division.  They are 7-9 at home and 7-8 on the road.

Week In Review:

The Cardinals opened up the week completing a two-game series against the Angels, on the road.  Franyel Casadilla rebounded from a bad previous start to throw seven shutout innings and striking out six.  The Redbirds jumped on the scoreboard in the second as Brian Sanchez drove in one run and later scored.  Elehuris Montero plated Edwin Figuera, after a wild pitch, in the sixth.  Figuera and Montero added runs on the ninth to put the Cardinals up 2-0.  An error in the bottom of the ninth allowed the Halos to finally get in a run but still came up short 5-1 and extending the Redbirds winning streak to two games.

The Cardinals hosted the Astros Orange in the first of two games, in the next series.  The Redbirds received another quality start, from this time Oneiver Diaz.  Diaz put up zeroes for the first three innings before the Orange took advantage of a couple errors to plate three runs.  The Cardinals had taken the lead earlier on with grand slam by Starlin Balbuena, in the second.  The Redbirds added another in the fifth and the bullpen coughed up the lead and later the game.  The Astros Orange claimed the contest 7-5 in ten innings.

The Cardinals headed out on the road in the second game of the two-game set with Astros Orange.  The Redbirds were shutdown by the Orange pitching, who tossed seven scoreless frames.  Will Changarotty, making his return to the rotation, tagged with Ronald Medrano for only five hits and three runs over nine innings.  The Cardinals came through in the eighth to plate four runs, Carlos Rodriguez drive in two, as they won 4-3.

The Cardinals broke out the bats in the fourth game of the week, on the road against the Nationals.  The Redbirds scored five runs in the first three frames to take an early 5-1 lead over the Nats.  Juan Alvarez was solid, with five strikeouts and only one run over four innings in the start.  The Nationals hopped one errors by the Cardinals and scored four in the fifth, answering the three in the top half of the innings.  The Redbirds scored another five in the eighth and put the game out of reach as Edwin Figuera, Brian Sanchez, and and Sanel Rosendo helped lead the way with two or more RBIs apiece for the 13-7 victory.

The Cardinals looked to extend their two-game winning streak at home against the Nationals.  Junior Gonzalez kept the Redbirds within striking distance with the Nats, allowing two runs over six innings.  The Nationals attacked the bullpen in the eight and ninth plating five over both frames.  Irving Wilson hit a three-run homer in the eighth, but it wasn't enough as the Nationals pulled out the win 7-4.

The Cardinals ended this period hosting the Rangers One, for the beginning of a two-game set.  Franyel Casadilla came through for the second time this week with a solid start.  Casadilla only allowed five hits and one run over seven innings.  Brian Sanchez hit a solo home run in the fifth and added two more RBIs in the seventh.  Edwin Figuera put the game at a safe distance with two more runs in the eighth and the Cardinals doubled up the Rangers One 6-3.
