The Dominican Summer League Cardinals began this reporting week losing their first two games then winning the next two of three.  The club has a 19-23 record with .452 PCT and are eleven games out of first place in a two-way tie with the Nationals for third place in the Boca Chica North Division.  They are 10-11 at home and 9-12 on the road.

Week In Review:

The Cardinals opened the week, on the road, for the second game of the series against the Astros Orange.  The Astros came out swinging and scored eight runs in the first three innings.  Ronald Medrano and Brian Pirela stopped the bleeding with a combined four scoreless frames mid-game.  The Redbird made a strong comeback at the end of the game lead by Andres Luna (three RBIs), Luis Flores (two RBIs), Dylan Melendez (two RBIs), and a solo home run by Sanel Rosendo but fell short in the 13-11 slugfest.

The Cardinals stayed out on the road and visited the Nationals for a two-game set.  The Redbirds pitching again struggled early and then late.  The Nationals took and early 2-0 lead, but the Cardinals came back as Wadye Ynfante drove in one run, Carlos Rodriguez collected two singles and one RBI, and Sanel Rosendo doubled in another.  Juan Alvarez had calmed and cruised through three innings but was knocked out in the fifth and Edwar Ramirez took on the beating in the sixth and seventh.  The Nationals held the Cardinals scoreless for the remaining four innings of the game and won 7-5.

The Cardinals, looking to bounce back and end their personal two-game losing streak with the Nationals, arrived home.  Junior Gonzalez started and was almost untouchable through six innings.  Gonzalez only allowed one hit, one unearned run, two walks, and struck four out for his best performance to date this season.  Wadye Ynfante gave the Redbirds the early lead with a solo home run in the first.  With the game tied in the eighth, Ynfante and Carlos Rodriguez each knocked in runs to give the Cardinals a 3-1 lead.  Enrique Perez and Estailin Tejada combined for three scoreless innings to close out the game and a victory, ending the two-game slide.

The Cardinals stuck around home to take on the Rangers One, in the final two-game series before the All-Star break.  Franyel Casadilla was dominate with six scoreless innings and five strikeouts.  Wadye Ynfante helped put the Redbirds up early with a RBI single in the third.  The Cardinals bullpen couldn't keep the game as they coughed up four runs in the seventh and one in the ninth.  Dylan Melendez hit a solo home run in the ninth but the Redbirds fell 5-2 to the Rangers One.

The Cardinals finished the first half of the season, on the road vs. the Rangers One.  Oneiver Diaz threw a strong performance allowing five hits, three runs, two walks, and striking out five over five innings.  The Rangers held onto the game 3-1 until the Redbirds turned on the offense in the sixth innings.  Andres Luna lead the way with one double, one triple, two home runs, and five RBIs.  Edwin Figuera, Irving Wilson, and Esequeil Delgado also chipped in RBIs.  Fabian Blanco tossed three scoreless in relief and Estailin Tejada followed with one scoreless as the Cardinals went on to win 9-3 over the Rangers One.
