Chris Carpenter Out Several More Weeks, Brian Barton D.L., Nick Stavinoha Recalled

Injured ace Chris Carpenter will make his latest visit to the Busch Stadium bullpen mound this afternoon. Where he is truly headed, however, remains almost as vague as when he left the sixth inning of his start Aug. 10 in Chicago.

Instant Replay Is A Good Idea, Some Cardinals Say

Busch Stadium will be one of the last venues where instant replay will be implemented, because the Cardinals will be out of town beginning Thursday when the process will start in Major League Baseball, and the club won't be home again until a week from Friday. But some Cardinals players interviewed on Tuesday already were on board with replay, which will apply to potential home runs only, for the rest of the regular season and all the postseason.

Roster Ruminations

i don’t have a whole lot to say about the big series. the cards are catching a big break by missing sabathia, but they still have to face sheets, who is pitching better than his un-acelike recent line --- 1-4, 4.36 era in his last 5 starts --- would suggest. in those 5 starts he has thrown 33 innings and allowed just 1 homer, with a k/bb approaching 4:1 and an opponent ops of .678.

Games Of The Day 8-26-08

The Cardinals trail the Brewers by 3 1/2 games as Milwaukee visits St. Louis. Ben Sheets faces Todd Wellemeyer in game one. The Brewers lost four of Ben's last five starts, but only scored five runs in those four losses. Ben has a 4.36 ERA over those five games, so both sides are contributing. Wellemeyer's ERA is about 1 1/2 runs higher at home. In about the same number of innings, he's walked twice as many batters in St. Louis

Those Untucking Milwaukee Brewers

During their four-game sweep of the Cardinals back in July, the Milwaukee Brewers’ brand of celebration caught eyes on the other side of the field and in the stands.
