When Did Cardinals Pitchers Last Have Such Great Back-To-Back Starts?
The Cardinals bullpen in 2018 has been pretty bad. We don't want to name names, but as a collective group they rank in the bottom third of the NL in fWAR, ERA, FIP, xFIP, and a lot of other things. Luckily for all involved, they got a much needed reprieve the last two games and were only needed to get four outs. And during that time, one of their relievers threw a ball over 105 mph. So while short on WAR, they are not a unit bereft of entertainment.

Attendance Is Down Around The Majors; Balance Of Power; Adam Wainwright High On The RBI Charts
On Wednesday, there were nine games in the major leagues that attracted under 20,000 fans, with five of them drawing under 15,000. Some of these latter contests were played in non-contending cities such as Cincinnati, Oakland, Chicago (White Sox) and St. Petersburg, Fla. But one was played in Cleveland, which has been leading the American League Central Division for some time now but drew only 12,063 (not counting bugs) for an important game with Houston.

Series Preview: Cardinals @ Reds (August 4-6, 2015)
The Cardinals would have faced Johnny Cueto, but that righthanded ace has been traded. (So has Mike Leake, who blanked them last week). Instead, the Cardinals get another look at rookie Anthony DeSclafani, who shut them out for seven innings in St. Louis last week, defeating John Lackey, who will oppose him again Tuesday, by a 1-0 score. ... By the end of the series, the Reds will have started rookie pitchers in eight straight games. The most recent team to have done that is Oakland, which finished the 2012 season with 14 straight games started by rookies.

How Joaquin Andujar Made Like Babe Ruth For Cardinals
Three factors combined to make the last home run of Joaquin Andujar’s career both special and unconventional: It was a grand slam, he called the shot and the Cardinals pitcher, a right-hander, hit it left-handed.

Michael Wacha In Ace Company With Near-Miss No-Hitter
With his dazzling performance Tuesday night in which he commanded 26 outs before permitting a hit – the fourth ninth-inning no-hitter broken up this season – Michael Wacha turned in a mirror opposite of Shelby Miller‘s gem from May 10. Miller, as you may recall, gave up a hit in the first at-bat of the game, then registered 27 outs in shutting out the Rockies. (He even bookended the performance by ending the game by striking out Eric Young, the man who claimed the only hit leading off the game.)
