New Documentary On 1980's Cardinals Is As Fun As They Were

The first baseball team you follow as a kid, the first one you truly dedicate yourself to obsessing over every day for six months of the year, can set the tone for the rest of your baseball fandom moving forward. Baseball just means more to you when you’re a kid: Every pitch seems like the most important pitch ever thrown, every win is glorious, every loss is tragic, all the players are 15 feet tall. You can never quite recreate the rush of that first team you truly love, that first time you feel so connected to it, to its fans, to its ebbs and flows, to something larger than yourself. It sticks with you forever.

Adam Wainwright Becomes Fifth Cardinal To 150 Wins

There were a pair of laundry carts ready for Adam Wainwright and batterymate Yadier Molina as the Cardinals filed into the clubhouse after Wednesday’s 5-2 victory over the Brewers. That’s because there was more than a series sweep to celebrate.

After allowing three hits, including a home run, to the first four Milwaukee batters he faced Wednesday and then walking a hitter in the next inning, Cardinals righthander Adam Wainwright did something very un-Christian like.

When Adam Wainwright stood at spring training and considered the end of his contract, he said, repeatedly, that his plan was to force the team to want him back. His season took a more scenic route than planned – winding through rehab assignments and recovery, from Springfield, Mo., to Memphis, to a playoff race in September – but the destination was the same.

As this past season wound down and Adam Wainwright made his final home start, he was asked the unavoidable question if he had thrown his last pitch wearing a St. Louis Cardinals uniform. Admitting that it could be possible, Wainwright very quickly stated he didn’t feel like that was the case, instead keeping the focus on the team’s playoff hopes and a chance to pitch again in the post season.
