Do The Cardinals & Rockies Match Up?

Hundreds of trade conversations will take place between clubs in the weeks leading to Opening Day. Few of the discussions will lead to actual deals, but teams will scout each other heavily, seeking possible fits.

Did The Cardinals Try To Trade Albert Pujols?

Olney states that the Cardinals have never really pursued trading Pujols. What I want to know is, why would Pujols' agent feel the need to announce that Pujols would veto any trade proposal if the Cardinals didn't try to trade him?

Best Bunts Of 2010

1. Adam Wainwright‘s bunt for .403 WPA on Aaron Heilman‘s error in the Cardinals’ June 28 6-5 win over the Diamondbacks on June 28. With no outs in the top of the ninth, the Cardinals were down 4-5. After Yadier Molina (!) and Brendan Ryan (!!) singles to put them on first and second, Wainwright came to the plate and bunted. Heilman fielded the ball but threw poorly to third, scoring the pinch-running Jaime Garcia (ah, Tony La Russa) to tie the game and moving Ryan and Heilman to second and third. A big play on an error, but actually not the biggest WPA play of the game. That play would be Skip Schumaker‘s (!!!) game-winning single to win the game later than inning.

What Impact Will New Hitting Coach Carney Lansford Have?

To stimulate the lineup, the Rockies replaced Don Baylor with Lansford, who worked with many of the current Rockies in '07 when he was hitting coach at Triple-A Colorado Springs. His key projects are Iannetta, Helton and third baseman Ian Stewart, who is capable of impressive stretches of power but conversely can have runs of unproductive at-bats. Lansford has already made personal visits with Stewart, Iannetta and outfielder Seth Smith, so he's certainly not holding back in his efforts to make a mark.

Mariners To Non-Tender Jose Lopez

A source tells me that the Mariners will non-tender third baseman Jose Lopez, which would make him a free agent.
