Appreciation Goes Both Ways For Albert Pujols, Cardinals

The last time Albert Pujols played a game at Busch Stadium, a stadium he hit the first Cardinals home run at, a stadium he won two MVP Awards playing in, a stadium that in many ways he helped to build, he was running off the field in joy after winning his second World Series in six seasons. What was particularly thrilling and strange about this was that, the night before, Cardinals fans had already said goodbye to him.

Bud Norris Could Be A Sleeper Addition

Adding Norris isn't going to save the Cardinals if the ship starts sinking in June; he is here to provide reliable support for the bullpen and the rotation.

Why Is Jonathan Broxton Still On The Cardinals?

Life produces plenty of interesting conundrums. Why can't drivers properly execute a four way stop? Why do people wear sweatpants in the summer? Why drink diet coke with a triple cheeseburger?

Bullpen Implodes/Jonathan Broxton's Days Could Be Numbered

To paraphrase Harry Dunn in regards to the Cardinals, Just when I thought you couldn’t POSSIBLY get any worse, you go and play a game like that…and TOTALLY REDEEM–wait, never mind. No redemption to be found here. The St. Louis Cardinals bullpen outdid their own futility on Monday night in Washington, D.C.. Those in the Twitter-verse probably saw this, and Dan McLaughlin mentioned it late in the broadcast – for those that stuck around – with last night’s performance, the bullpen ERA has balloon to a hefty 8.86 on the season. Oh my.

Where Does Matt Adams Provide The Most Value?

Talking about Matt Adams with St. Louis Cardinals fans is like talking about that stock that used to be very high, yet now sits around the "you never know" level. He's not the polarizing lightning rod topic that is Mike Matheny, but he generates discussion every spring, and for good reason: Adams' role and value is ever-changing.

Masters Of The Low-Hanging Fruit

If you came here hoping for a negative attack on the shrewd ways of the St. Louis Cardinals’ front office then you are going to be thoroughly disappointed. I am a huge fan of John Mozeliak and the entire operation that he spearheads.

The Cardinals Need A Backup Catcher For 2017, Is Carson Kelly Ready?

A few days ago the Cardinals officially moved on from Brayan Pena as their backup catcher. Not that Pena was ever in a St. Louis uniform long enough to make sure we’d remember he signed a two-year, $5 million free-agent contract with the Cards last winter. Pena was a jolly good soul who actually tried to catch with a Santa Claus body.

Stephen Piscotty Is The Total Package

Stephen Piscotty has been filling in swimmingly since the first time it was documented, back when he pitched “four strong innings in relief” according to the Valley Times, a localized edition of California’s Contra Costa Times. He was 10. His Yankees beat the A’s 3-2 in the Livermore American Little League.

Mark Reynolds Is Finding His Niche With Cardinals

The expanse of the role veteran slugger Mark Reynolds is going to create for himself with the Cardinals won’t be defined during the spring and it might take several months for him to show if he’s a starter, a platoon player or a masher off the bench. Regardless of the part he plays during the season, he does have a title he’d like at the end of it.

Is The Cardinals' 25-Man Roster Already Set?

Every winter about this time, as the hangover from the Winter Meetings lifts and the euphoria of a week spent rumor-mongering and trade-conjuring fades, a bit of reality sets in, or should. Those aren’t the only four days of the winter when teams can make moves.
