Left-handed pitching is always something in high demand and often in short supply. Some of that is simply probability. Only about 10 percent of the world’s population is left-handed. The difficulty in developing pitching in general and keeping pitchers healthy whittles the numbers down even more.

Bob Tewksbury Became 'Thinking Man's Pitcher'
Owing, in part, to the fact that his fastball was not very fast, 1990s Cardinals righthander Bob Tewksbury became known as a “Thinking Man’s Pitcher.”

Yu Darvish, Jon Lester Make Case To Start Opening Day
One day after Yu Darvish created a bit of a scare by tweeting while waiting to see a doctor, it turned out to be more of a false alarm than anything else. The Cubs pitcher just wanted to be sure he was not in the clubhouse if he had something contagious.

In 'A Better Place,' Jon Lester Happy With Debut
At some point this season, if things go as they should, Willson Contreras will become the catcher who has caught the most innings of Jon Lester's long, storied career. For now, that title still belongs to David Ross.

Braves Making Madison Bumgarner A Priority
That last part is the greatest concern to any Giants officials looking for a reunion. Per league sources, the Braves have made Bumgarner a priority and planned to quickly communicate that to the left-hander. Atlanta sniffed around before the trade deadline and they are the clear favorite if Bumgarner does end up elsewhere.

Adam Wainwright Adds To His Postseason Legend
In a postseason already filled with great pitching performances, Adam Wainwright’s gem on Sunday afternoon was likely one of the most unexpected. He held the Braves scoreless over seven and two-thirds innings, allowing just six baserunners while striking out eight. If Carlos MartÃnez had been able to hold onto the slim margin he was handed in the ninth, the headline would have certainly featured the 38-year-old’s gutsy outing. But this latest start was just one more milestone in a career filled with postseason heroics.

A relationship that went public over beers at the Cubby Bear in Wrigleyville and changed the course of cursed history in a cloud of champagne in Cleveland ended with a bottle of wine (or several) late Saturday night for the Cardinals’ rivals in St. Louis.
