Left-handed pitching is always something in high demand and often in short supply. Some of that is simply probability. Only about 10 percent of the world’s population is left-handed. The difficulty in developing pitching in general and keeping pitchers healthy whittles the numbers down even more.

Christian Yelich Capitalizes On Pirates' Mistake For 22nd Homer
Christian Yelich has baseball’s best batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage since last year’s All-Star break. The most home runs and RBIs, too. So it stands to reason that when an opponent pops him up, they had better make the play.

Sam Gaviglio Is An Intersting Reliever For Blue Jays
In the middle of last season, I wrote about how Sam Gaviglio was working a unique brand of success, using a sub-90 mph fastball and a nasty slider. The success ran out with his subpar heater after though, as after July he put up a 6.16 ERA and 4.83 FIP in 76 innings.

Video: Jim Edmonds On Passed Balls 4-3-19
"I love having guys on third base in this situation because of so many guys with good breaking balls...bouncing a lot of balls in the dirt. Cervelli is doing a great job but he can't do it every time."— FOX Sports Midwest (@FSMidwest) April 4, 2019

Francisco Liriano 'Happy To Be Back,' Aims For Bullpen Role
Three years ago, Francisco Liriano threw out the first pitch of the season at PNC Park. On Wednesday afternoon at LECOM Park, he wasn’t even the first pitcher to take the mound in a Pirates uniform.

Melky Cabrera Grateful For His Opportunity With Pirates
This season is already off to a better start than 2018 for Melky Cabrera. At this time a year ago, he was still waiting to sign. He kept waiting until late April before finding a match with the Indians on a Minor League contract. So the veteran outfielder felt like he was arriving early when he reported on time to Pirates camp on Sunday morning.

Justin Verlander K's Ten, Makes History In Return To Detroit
There were loud ovations, a tip of the cap and even a scoreboard tribute video that was enough to make Justin Verlander deviate from his regimented pregame routine and stop in his tracks in the Comerica Park outfield prior to Monday's game against the Tigers and take it all in.

The Five Best Tools Among NL Central Players
Brewers manager Craig Counsell drew some laughs a couple of weeks ago when he said Lorenzo Cain "has a little bit of Willie McGee in him." Counsell is old enough to remember watching McGee amble out to center field or take a lead off first base for the Cardinals like he could barely stand, then transform into an electric athlete when the bat met the baseball.

Jose Iglesias Keeping Gritty Approach After Deadline
The A's first hit off Blaine Hardy on Friday night was a ground ball deep in the hole that left shortstop Jose Iglesias with no play at first base. That doesn't mean Iglesias didn't try, quickly firing off a throw that bounced as Jed Lowrie hit first base with time to spare with a seventh-inning leadoff single.
