Third In Line? Despite 'Lost Year,' Elehuris Montero Can Establish Bat First, Position Later

The only member of the hitting group not expected to contribute in the majors this season, Elehuris Montero stepped into the batting shell on the field farthest from the Cardinals’ spring clubhouse and had one swing to do what the others could not.

Here's Who Could DH For The Cardinals

With the new MLB proposal involving universal usage of the designated hitter and the players reportedly being all for it, the question now turns to team rosters around the league as managers and coaches decide who is going to get four extra at-bats a game.

How Worried Should The Cardinals Be About Paul Goldschmidt?

The Cardinals reached the 2019 NLCS on the strength of their pitching and defense, as the team’s offensive efforts could best be described as middle of the pack. After letting Marcell Ozuna leave in free agency and trading Jose Martinez to the Rays, St. Louis did more to subtract than add from the lineup during the offseason, as Brad Miller and the re-signed Matt Wieters were the only position players inked to Major League contracts.

Cardinals Optioned Genesis Cabrera, Junior Fernandez, Alex Reyes, & Andrew Knizner To Triple-A Memphis

Though baseball is on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, clubs are still free to sort out rosters to prepare for when the season begins. The Cardinals made their second round of cuts since the regular season was postponed, optioning Génesis Cabrera, Junior Fernandez, Alex Reyes and Andrew Knizner to Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.

Andrew Knizner, Jack Flaherty, Brad Miller Notes; Up Next

This camp means more to Andrew Knizner. In 2019, he got his first taste of the big league opportunity that lies in store for him should he break camp with the team this month. That experience came with modest results, and like the film junkie has made a point of his entire career, he learned from it.

Visualizing Percentile PECOTA Outcomes For The Cardinals Offense

Last week, I put together a point-counterpoint for several aspects of the Cardinals entering 2020. As each point and counterpoint was made, it became (seemingly) apparent that there’s a lot of volatility to the upcoming season. Fluid situations in left field, the rotation, the bullpen, potential bouncebacks for key returners, and overall team speed and defense are going to dictate how far the Cardinals advance this year.

Who Has Impressed The Cardinals Most This Spring?

After Wednesday’s 4-1 loss to the Mets, the Cardinals are halfway through Spring Training and Opening Day is three weeks away. The competition for roster spots, like in the outfield and the rotation, will start to heat up as pitchers begin to throw with more intent and hitters begin to see more at-bats.

Andrew Knizner Is Controlling What He Can Control As Yadier Molina's 'Heir Apparent'

Cardinals catcher Andrew Knizner is in maybe one of the most unenviable spots in baseball. He's a top prospect, but he has to follow up a legend.
