Matt Wieters Has Impressive Resume, But No Guarantee From Cardinals

A week ago, two years to the day after he agreed to a two-year, $21-million contract with Washington that came tricked-out with all the latest gadgets — a player option and deferred money — Matt Wieters went back to his college, just another alum looking for a job.

The Rock Of The Cardinals: Yadier Molina Is Part Star, Part Sage

For the past 14 years, the best catcher in baseball has been a looming presence, a shadowy specter. He lurks, his heroics often overlooked and sometimes completely unseen.

The Cardinals Should Consider Alex Avila

Someday, the Cardinals will (probably, eventually) sign a backup catcher capable of starting semi-regularly. Alex Avila is a promising candidate.

The Cardinals Need A Backup Catcher For 2017, Is Carson Kelly Ready?

A few days ago the Cardinals officially moved on from Brayan Pena as their backup catcher. Not that Pena was ever in a St. Louis uniform long enough to make sure we’d remember he signed a two-year, $5 million free-agent contract with the Cards last winter. Pena was a jolly good soul who actually tried to catch with a Santa Claus body.

History Isn't Keeping Cardinals From Pursuing Johnny Cueto

While there's nothing to indicate the Cardinals are making a push to sign Johnny Cueto, the bitter history between the club and longtime Reds right-hander doesn't appear to be the reason.

By Waiting To Sign, Johnny Cueto Lowers His Price

OK, left-hander David Price is now with the Red Sox and righty Zack Greinke is with the D-backs. The Dodgers reportedly have an agreement to sign right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma, and the Giants are waiting for right-hander Jeff Samardzija to undergo a physical on Tuesday to finalize a deal for him to step into their rotation.

Fidining Yadier Molina's Backup Isn't That Easy

As Cardinal Nation digests the vague information on Yadier Molina's left thumb, it's once again time to ponder who will eventually be the next catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals when Molina and Father Time finally meet more intimately. And potentially more important, a suitable backup for the future Hall of Famer.

A Response To Jason Heyward???

Four days ago the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-5 in extra innings to take the series and conclude their road trip to open the season. Following that game, Reds manager Bryan Price took exception to a “dirty slide” into third base from Jason Heyward. Heyward and others on the Cardinals refuted the charge.
STL Baseball Weekly

On Sunday in Cincinnati following a frustrating loss of a game, and a series to the Cardinals, Reds manager Bryan Price made some pointed comments that called out St. Louis right fielder Jason Heyward for a late slide into third baseman Todd Frazier.

Johnny Cueto Lends Cardinals A Hand

The Cincinnati Reds had no motivation to take their weekend series against the streaking Pittsburgh Pirates, but they did anyway. That allowed the Cardinals to claim another National League Central title without incident and manager Mike Matheny to rest starting pitcher Adam Wainwright and others in his season finale.
