Peoria: A (Non) Typical Day

Well yesterday had a little bit of everything, but most importantly two Chiefs wins to start this series and roadtrip. Alex Reyes got the win in game one as the Chiefs won 11-6. The nightcap was delayed by rain but the Chiefs won in extras 6-3. Here are today’s Game Notes as the Chiefs go for three straight wins in Beloit. As you’ll see in the game notes, Jimmy Reed starts here tomorrow and Silfredo Garcia in game one at Cedar Rapids Friday. After that the rotation is up in the air due to the rainouts.

Talent In, Talent Out

Shelby Miller! I have it on good faith that he throws 120 miles per hour... to contact. That he has a 2:1 groundballs-batters faced ratio. That he is, depending on how ready you were to jump on the Anthony Reyes, Future Ace bandwagon following his crazy 8 K:BB stint in AA, the best-regarded pitching prospect in the system since Rick Ankiel, despite having yet to play a baseball game for money.

Daryl Jones, Jess Todd Top Cardinals' Farm

Outfielder Daryl Jones and right-hander Jess Todd have been selected as the Cardinals' 2008 Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Year.
Cardinals Official Site

Less than two full seasons ago, outfielder Daryl Jones was a one-time, blue-chip football prospect struggling to hit .200 at Low-A baseball for the second consecutive summer. He didn’t waver from his choice to slog through the minors over catching passes for a major college. He believed like the Cardinals’ coaches and Cardinals’ front office believed – he had all the tools for baseball. Things just had to click.
