Pirates shortstop Jack Wilson apologized today for his remarks yesterday criticizing the team's latest round of trades.

Shortstop Jack Wilson sought out members of the media on Wednesday afternoon to issue a public apology for comments he made on Tuesday after learning that teammates Nyjer Morgan and Sean Burnett had been traded to Washington.

Adam Kennedy's experience, versatility and somewhat surprising success this season should make him the subject of a few phone calls, too. I also wouldn't be shocked if a team in need of bullpen help were willing to overlook Russ Springer's uneven season to this point and take a look at picking him up.

Scott Rolen (Blue Jays):
The Blue Jays provided plenty of support, pounding out five runs and three home runs against Rays right-hander James Shields. Barajas belted a solo homer in the seventh to push Toronto out to a 3-0 lead, and Adam Lind and Scott Rolen connected for back-to-back solo blasts to left in the eighth to add to that advantage. Rolen had earlier extended his hitting streak to 19 games with a single in the sixth inning.

Unable to avoid the inevitability any longer, the Yankees announced on Wednesday that outfielder Xavier Nady has abandoned his attempts to rehab his right elbow and will undergo Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery next Wednesday, effectively ending his season.

The Sioux Falls Canaries have signed former Major League outfielder Reggie Taylor. A first round draft pick in 1995, Taylor broke into the big leagues with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2000 and spent the entire 2002 and 2003 seasons on the Major League roster of the Cincinnati Reds.

Ex-Cardinals Watch 4-24-09: Carmen Cali Signs Deal, Reggie Taylor Traded, Jeff Weaver Being Considered, Jeff McCowan Not Yet Retired

The Dodgers are uneasy about the ability of their bullpen to the point where Jeff Weaver -- currently throwing at triple-A Albuquerque -- is on their radar, Dodgers Manager Joe Torre said.
"He's been coming up in conversation," Torre said of Weaver, 32, who is scheduled to start for Albuquerque on Saturday. If Weaver did join the big-league club, the right-hander could be used for relief or "if we need somebody to fill in for a starter," Torre said.

Adam Kennedy is hitting an inordinate amount of line drives. 44% of his balls in play have been of the line drive variety. Having been cut by the Cardinals and not making the Rays out of spring training, Kennedy is apparently trying to show someone he can hit. After walking in just 6.4% of his plate appearances for St. Louis, Kennedy so far has a walk rate of 18%. He's even slugging, with 3 homers and a double. Kennedy hit a whopping 2 homers all season last year in St. Louis.

The latest additions are Mississaugan Branson Joseph, an outfielder who plays college baseball with Canisius, first baseman/relief pitcher Derek Gordon of Brampton and shortstop Jeff McCowan, who has nine years of minor professional experience.
“He (McCowan) was going to retire,” said Calcagni of McCowan, who was once the property of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Florida Marlins and played in the Northern Baseball League. “He gives us some veteran experience who’ll be able to help the young guys on our team.”
