Ex-Cardinals Watch 6-17-09: Johnny Hernandez, Esteban Yan, Josh Pressley, & Eric Ackerman Named All-Stars; Brandon Johnson Traded; Sidney Ponson Rehab

Sidney Ponson (Royals):
Veteran right-hander Sidney Ponson worked two scoreless innings Wednesday for Class AAA Omaha in a 4-3 victory at New Orleans. The appearance marked the first outing in minor-league rehabilitation assignment in recovering from a strained right elbow.

Ponson pitched the first two innings and allowed one hit, a single, while striking out two and walking none. He threw 28 pitches, including 18 for strikes.

It was his first game action since allowing four runs in one-third of an inning May 29 against the White Sox.

Scott Thorman’s three-run homer in the first inning provided Ponson with an early lead. Thorman has 10 homers and 22 RBIs in 27 games since signing with the Royals as a minor-league free agent.
Kansas City Star

Cesar Izturis (Orioles):
Shortstop Cesar Izturis, on the disabled list after undergoing an emergency appendectomy, had his stitches removed today. He's still expected to join the Orioles in Miami.

MiLB

Jeff Suppan (Brewers):
Hart's ninth-inning home run extended the Brewers' lead to 8-4 and prompted Hoffman to stop warming in the bullpen. Instead, Seth McClung returned to the mound for a third inning in relief of Jeff Suppan, who worked eight innings and surrendered three runs and was in line to win his third straight start.
Brewers Official Site

Dan Haren (Diamondbacks):
Last time out, Dan Haren left nothing to chance.

Ex-Cardinal Watch 6-10-09: Coco Crisp Misses Another Game; Anthony Reyes To Have Tommy John Surgery; Emil Brown To Minors; Jameson Maj Traded

Coco Crisp (Royals):
Although Royals manager Trey Hillman was hoping to have Coco Crisp back in the lineup for all three games of the Cleveland series, that did not happen.
Royals Official Site

Anthony Reyes (Indians):
Lots of injury updates for you, courtesy of head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff. The big news is that not only is Anthony Reyes having the ulnar nerve transposition surgery recommended by the Indians, but he might also mix in a little Tommy John, for good measure. Dr. Lewis Yocum will perform the transposition on Friday and, if he discovers the ligament needs to be replaced, he'll perform the Tommy John. If Reyes just has the transposition, he'll miss four to six months. If he has the Tommy John, he'll be a year away from being ready to pitch in the big leagues. Either way, his '09 season is over.

The transposition surgery was originally to take place last Friday, but Reyes didn't immediately consent to the possibility of Tommy John until he had several conversations with Yocum. So that was the holdup.
Castro Turf

Emil Brown (Mets):
In other "news," Emil Brown has cleared waivers and will report to Triple-A Buffalo.
Newsday

Aaron Miles (Cubs):
The Cubs activated Aaron Miles from the disabled list and optioned infielder/outfielder Jake Fox to Triple-A Iowa.
Down On The Farm

Daric Barton (Athletics):
Fresh on the heels of being called up from Triple-A Sacramento for the first time this season, Daric Barton was all smiles in the same uniform he wore 140 times with the big boys in Oakland last year.
Athletics Official Site

David Eckstein (Padres):
But Black won't be the only former Angel making his return to the stadium. Second baseman David Eckstein played with the club for four seasons, including the 2002 season when the Angels won their first and only World Series title.
Padres Official Site

Nate Cotton (Kansas City):
The Kansas City T-Bones and manager Andy McCauley have announced the signing of pitcher Nate Cotton to a contract for the 2009 season.
WIBW

Matt Weagle (Worcester):
The Worcester Tornadoes of the Can-Am League placed him on the disabled list.

Jamerson Maj (San Angelo):
The Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League traded him to the San Angelo Colts of the United Baseball League.

Cardoza Tucker (Orange County):
The Orange County Flyers of the Golden Baseball League placed him on the inactive list.

Brandon Johnson (Somerset):
“Not playing” last season and “not playing” this season have two very different meanings to Brandon Johnson.
