Ex-Cardinals Watch 7-30-09: Mike Timlin & Cardoza Tucker Sign Deals; Jack Wilson Traded; Brett Tomko, Julian Tavarez, & Andy Cavazos All Released

Brett Tomko (Free Agent):
Released by Yankees.
Star Ledger Twitter

Adam Kennedy (Athletics):
The non-waiver Trade Deadline is Friday afternoon, so it's certainly possible that Orlando Cabrera and Adam Kennedy will be wearing other clubs' uniforms by Saturday. If that's the case, at least they can say they went out on a high note.
Athletics Official Site

Jack Wilson (Mariners):
The Mariners acquired shortstop Jack Wilson and righty Ian Snell from the Pirates in a seven-player trade Wednesday, sending five players, including former No. 1 Draft choice Jeff Clement, to Pittsburgh.
Mariners Official Site

When Jack Wilson entered the Mariners' dugout in the seventh inning Wednesday afternoon, Ken Griffey Jr. welcomed him in his own Junior way.
Mariners Official Site

It was an odd scene, a rushed one, too, at AT&T Park on Wednesday afternoon. The Giants ushered Freddy Sanchez into an impromptu press conference after slipping a Giants jersey over his head. Minutes before, Sanchez had been in the dugout with his Pirates teammates. Now he was preparing to enter the thick of a pennant race.

Julian Tavarez (Free Agent):
Right-hander Julian Tavarez, who was designated for assignment on July 19, cleared waivers on Wednesday and is officially a free agent.

Ex-Cardinals Watch 7-27-09: Cardoza Tucker Released; Daric Barton Hurting; Hector Luna Begins Rehab; Dmitri Young Done For Season

Jack Wilson (Pirates):
Minnesota had a scout watching the Pirates yesterday in Phoenix, and the Twins are in search of a middle infielder. But the Twins also are reported to be in intense talks to acquire shortstop Orlando Cabrera from the Oakland Athletics. Boston, also looking for a middle infielder, was there, too.
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

There has been no movement by either side in the stalled contract talks between the Pirates and infielders Freddy Sanchez and Jack Wilson. The non-waiver trading deadline is 4 p.m. Friday.
Pittsburgh Tribune Live

Dmitri Young (Nationals):
It looks like Dmitri Young's career, which reached such inspiring heights two years ago with the Nationals, has come to an end under upsetting circumstances.
Washington Times

Nationals first baseman Dmitri Young is out for the season because of a torn left quad.
Nationals Official Site

Daric Barton (Athletics):
Daric Barton had two hits on Sunday for the first time all year and finally appeared to show signs of coming out of his season-long slump. Now, the A's aren't sure when he's next going to play.
Athletics Official Site

Scott Rolen (Blue Jays):
With Cecil holding Tampa Bay's bats at bay, Rolen dealt the decisive blow in the fourth inning. Second baseman Aaron Hill led off the inning with a single to right field, and designated hitter Adam Lind followed suit before Rolen fired a 1-2 pitch from Rays right-hander Jeff Niemann (9-5) over the wall in left-center field to open a 3-0 lead for the Jays.
Blue Jays Official Site

The Cincinnati Reds, meanwhile, doubt they can make their deal for 3B Scott Rolen. The two teams talked three weeks ago when the Reds wanted the Jays to pay half of Rolen's 2010 salary, but since then they have had a disastrous West Coast trip.

Max Scherzer (Diamondbacks):
Max Scherzer turns 25 on Monday, when he will presumably receive several boxes of gifts to mark the occasion.

David Eckstein (Padres):
The Padres will get some good news this week when veteran second baseman David Eckstein (strained right hamstring) and veteran catcher Henry Blanco (also a strained right hamstring) come off the disabled list.
Padres Official Site

David Eckstein, who didn't return from the disabled list in Washington as hoped, will test his right hamstring Monday in Cincinnati.

“All I can say is that I'm close but I wasn't quite where I needed to be two days ago,” Eckstein said.
San Diego Union-Tribune

Jason Marquis (Rockies):
Rockies All-Star pitcher Jason Marquis' blistered right middle finger didn't affect him during a bullpen session on Sunday, which means he's a go for his start on Tuesday against the Mets at Citi Field.
Rockies Official Site

Sidney Ponson (Royals):
The lack of run support wasted a solid start from starter Sidney Ponson, who tossed six scoreless innings. Ponson worked out of trouble all day, and he paid a price when his pitch count of 102 forced him to take a seat after the sixth.
Royals Official Site

Hector Luna (Dodgers):
Assigned to Rookie-Level Arizona League Dodgers to begin rehab.

Jason Isringhausen (Rays):
Veteran reliever Jason Isringhausen may be done for the season due to upcoming Tommy John surgery - his second elbow surgery in 10 months - but his agent says he plans to come back and pitch in the big leagues again.
St. Petersburg Times

Jack Wilson (Pirates):
Longtime reader, first-time writer. My question is, if Jack Wilson wants to stay, and if the Pirates want him to, as they have said before, why not give him a Tim Wakefield-like contract? Give him the option to play however many years he would like at $4.5 million or so a year. That way not too much money is tied up to one player, and the Pirates can budget for the next year knowing his salary is locked in.
Pirates Official Site

Jim Leyland (Tigers MGR):
For the fourth straight year, Jim Leyland will put questions about his friendship with Tony La Russa on hold and renew their rivalry in Interleague Play, this time in St. Louis. The quirks of the Interleague schedule have somehow made this an annual event for two managers whose relationship goes back more than a quarter century.

Ex-Cardinal Watch 6-10-09: Coco Crisp Misses Another Game; Anthony Reyes To Have Tommy John Surgery; Emil Brown To Minors; Jameson Maj Traded

Coco Crisp (Royals):
Although Royals manager Trey Hillman was hoping to have Coco Crisp back in the lineup for all three games of the Cleveland series, that did not happen.
Royals Official Site

Anthony Reyes (Indians):
Lots of injury updates for you, courtesy of head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff. The big news is that not only is Anthony Reyes having the ulnar nerve transposition surgery recommended by the Indians, but he might also mix in a little Tommy John, for good measure. Dr. Lewis Yocum will perform the transposition on Friday and, if he discovers the ligament needs to be replaced, he'll perform the Tommy John. If Reyes just has the transposition, he'll miss four to six months. If he has the Tommy John, he'll be a year away from being ready to pitch in the big leagues. Either way, his '09 season is over.

The transposition surgery was originally to take place last Friday, but Reyes didn't immediately consent to the possibility of Tommy John until he had several conversations with Yocum. So that was the holdup.
Castro Turf

Emil Brown (Mets):
In other "news," Emil Brown has cleared waivers and will report to Triple-A Buffalo.
Newsday

Aaron Miles (Cubs):
The Cubs activated Aaron Miles from the disabled list and optioned infielder/outfielder Jake Fox to Triple-A Iowa.

Daric Barton (Athletics):
Fresh on the heels of being called up from Triple-A Sacramento for the first time this season, Daric Barton was all smiles in the same uniform he wore 140 times with the big boys in Oakland last year.

Ex-Cardinals Watch 5-20-09: Wayne Lundgren & Cardoza Tucker Sign Deals, Dmitri Young's Mother Passes Away, Jeff Weaver Pulled Early Due To Blister

Max Scherzer (Diamondbacks):
A fake-to-third-throw-to-first pickoff move in Max Scherzer's 23rd Major League game was crucial in springboarding him to his first Major League win.
Diamondbacks Official Site

Jeff Weaver (Dodgers):
Martin got the game-winning RBI, but the bullpen carried the night from the first pitch to the last. Swingman Jeff Weaver, subbing for the injured Eric Stults and draining a bleeding blister between innings, allowed one run over five innings until Torre decided that was enough and went to Ramon Troncoso, who threw two scoreless innings.

Weaver tried to downplay the blister and tucked his right hand under his leg during the postgame interview so reporters couldn't see the finger.

Rockies manager Clint Hurdle says he has spoken "ad nauseam" about situational hitting. That's why Troy Tulowitzki's first-pitch swing that led to a double-play grounder in Tuesday night's 8-1 loss to the Braves landed him on the bench on Wednesday. Hurdle said that could be the best way to reinforce his point.

Jeff Weaver(Indians):
With trade rumors continuing to circulate around C.C. Sabathia, you may have wondered who would take the big lefty's spot in the rotation if he was indeed traded.
