Ex-Cardinal Watch 6-10-09: Coco Crisp Misses Another Game; Anthony Reyes To Have Tommy John Surgery; Emil Brown To Minors; Jameson Maj Traded

Coco Crisp (Royals):
Although Royals manager Trey Hillman was hoping to have Coco Crisp back in the lineup for all three games of the Cleveland series, that did not happen.
Royals Official Site

Anthony Reyes (Indians):
Lots of injury updates for you, courtesy of head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff. The big news is that not only is Anthony Reyes having the ulnar nerve transposition surgery recommended by the Indians, but he might also mix in a little Tommy John, for good measure. Dr. Lewis Yocum will perform the transposition on Friday and, if he discovers the ligament needs to be replaced, he'll perform the Tommy John. If Reyes just has the transposition, he'll miss four to six months. If he has the Tommy John, he'll be a year away from being ready to pitch in the big leagues. Either way, his '09 season is over.

The transposition surgery was originally to take place last Friday, but Reyes didn't immediately consent to the possibility of Tommy John until he had several conversations with Yocum. So that was the holdup.

Emil Brown (Mets):
In other "news," Emil Brown has cleared waivers and will report to Triple-A Buffalo.

Aaron Miles (Cubs):
The Cubs activated Aaron Miles from the disabled list and optioned infielder/outfielder Jake Fox to Triple-A Iowa.

Daric Barton (Athletics):
Fresh on the heels of being called up from Triple-A Sacramento for the first time this season, Daric Barton was all smiles in the same uniform he wore 140 times with the big boys in Oakland last year.

David Eckstein (Padres):
But Black won't be the only former Angel making his return to the stadium. Second baseman David Eckstein played with the club for four seasons, including the 2002 season when the Angels won their first and only World Series title.

Nate Cotton (Kansas City):
The Kansas City T-Bones and manager Andy McCauley have announced the signing of pitcher Nate Cotton to a contract for the 2009 season.

Matt Weagle (Worcester):
The Worcester Tornadoes of the Can-Am League placed him on the disabled list.

Jamerson Maj (San Angelo):
The Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League traded him to the San Angelo Colts of the United Baseball League.

Cardoza Tucker (Orange County):
The Orange County Flyers of the Golden Baseball League placed him on the inactive list.

Brandon Johnson (Somerset):

Ex-Cardinals Watch 4-22-09: Jameson Maj Signs Deal, Nationals Not Interested In Mark Mulder, Darren Oliver On D.L., Dan Haren Picks Up 1st Win

Russell Branyan (Mariners):
Russell Branyan took 35 swings in the batting cage before the game and though improved, still didn't feel quite well enough to play. Branyan left last Friday's game against Detroit with tightness in his back and now has missed four games since.then.
The Seattle Times

Mark Mulder (Free Agent):
Despite rumors of their interest, the Nationals are not exploring the possibility of signing free agent Mark Mulder. The left-handed pitcher, a two-time all-star and former 20-game winner, has pitched just 12 2/3 innings during the last two years because of injury.

Mulder's agent, Gregg Clifton -- a neighbor of acting general manger Mike Rizzo in Scottsdale, Ariz. -- spoke with the club roughly a month ago about his client. But the Nationals have since backed off. Clifton has said that Mulder, who last pitched for the Cardinals, will be healthy enough to start big league games within two weeks.
The Washington Post

Darren Oliver (Angels):
To make room for Thursday's starter, Matt Palmer, the Angels placed Darren Oliver on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left triceps and Kelvim Escobar was transferred from the 15- to the 60-day DL.
Angels Official Site

Braden Looper (Brewers):
Looper has been good at delivering wins in the early part of the season. In his previous start against the Reds, he limited the damage to three runs in six innings and won for a Brewers team that had lost its fourth game in a row. Entering Wednesday the team had lost three of four, including a Phillies rout on Tuesday night.
Brewers Official Site

Dan Haren (Diamondbacks):
Two runs.

They may not seem like much, but for Dan Haren, who had received one run of support in his first three starts, it was a windfall.

The right-hander didn't squander it, either, as he tossed seven shutout innings to pace the D-backs past the Rockies, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Chase Field.
D-Backs Official Site

David Eckstein (Padres):
David Eckstein is the type of scrappy, no-holds-barred player managers love to have on the field and in the clubhouse.
Padres Official Site

Jason Bowers (Rays):
Double-A Montgomery activated him from the 7-day disabled list.

Juan Diaz (Winnipeg):
Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced the acquisition of the playing rights to slugger Juan Diaz from Sussex of the CanAm League for cash and future considerations. Diaz was also signed today, bringing the number of players on the pre-season roster to 24, of whom 11 are position players.

Jameson Maj (Southern Illinois):
The Southern Illinois Miners have signed another Cardinals prospect, right-handed pitcher Jameson Maj, as well as former Cincinnati Reds prospect Danny Zeffiro.

Final Cardinals Spring Training Summary

A few closing notes from Roger Dean Stadium on today's Cardinals action:

Springfield News-Leader

Cardinals Cut Nine From Minor League Camp

One of the St. Louis Cardinals first forays into the Asian free-agent market, pitcher Hyang-Nam Choi, was one of nine cuts from the minor-league camp this morning. Choi, a righthander, was signed this past winter and brought to camp with the idea that he would at least make the Class AAA Memphis bullpen. At 37, Choi had to move fast to make the signing matter, and when it became clear that he was inconsistent in the minor-league games the Cardinals moved him to make room for a prospect in the Memphis bullpen.

The nine players released by the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday are Hyang-Nam Choi, Russ Haltiwanger, Jon Mikrut, Brian Cartie, Zach Pitts, Matt Spade, Wayne Daman, Jose Mateo and Jameson Maj.
