Ex-Cardinals Watch 9-16-09: Brett Tomko Hopes To Resign & Will Miss A Start; Russell Branyan Expected Back Soon; Edgar Renteria Has MRI

Russell Branyan (Mariners):
Russ Branyan, who has been out since Aug. 28 with a back injury, said today that he is feeling much better and aiming to play again this season. Branyan set the Blue Jays series in Toronto, Sept. 24-27, as his target return date.

Edgar Renteria (Giants):
Shortstop Edgar Renteria is out for the second consecutive game because of soreness in both shoulders. He had an MRI on his left shoulder that showed a sprained AC joint and some biceps tendinitis. And, of course, he continues to battle a right elbow that will require offseason surgery to remove bone spurs. He has been playing with all these ailments for some time.

Ex-Cardinals Watch 4-8-09: Adam Daniels, Isaias Garcia, Stuart Pomeranz, & Kris Honel Sign Deals; Ronnie Belliard Injured

Coors Field has been good to new Rockies right-handed pitcher Jason Marquis. He is 3-0 with a 2.51 ERA in five starts. To top that, he has a .400 batting average (4-for-10) with a double.

The Lincoln Saltdogs continued building their roster Tuesday, re-signing three members of the 2008 squad while adding a new arm in the bullpen. Outfielder Deacon Burns and three left-handed pitchers in Jonathan Figueroa, Adam Daniels and Nolan Chestnut all signed contracts for the 2009 season.
