Playing Free Agency, In The Minor Key

A smaller eddy curling off the free agent pool that the St. Louis Cardinals like to wade into each offseason is the one clogged with minor-league free agents. In order to open up more opportunities for in-house players, the Cardinals have purposefully pulled fewer and fewer six-year and minor-league free agents from those waters.

Baseball 101: Matt Pagnozzi On Catching

This video was shot several days ago, but if Huy “Spooner” Mach needed some B-roll to complement Matt Pagnozzi’s Baseball 101 he should have stayed around for today’s game. Pagnozzi had plenty of opportunities to show how to block pitches in the dirt.

The designation represents something of a reward for a pitcher whose mechanics were considered a train wreck two years ago but have since become more concise and consistent.
