Cardinals Minor League Spring Training Notebook 3-22-11

Following are the highlights from the seventh day of St. Louis Cardinals minor league games in spring 2011, on Tuesday, March 22. All five Cardinals teams played in Jupiter against their Florida Marlins counterparts. After the 3-2 day, the Cardinals system is a combined 14-10-5 this spring.
The St. Louis Cardinals wanted to be flexible with first-round pick Zack Cox entering camp this spring. Sure he was coming to major-league camp on the 40-man roster and, yes, he got more playing time than previous first rounders who got that invite.

Quad Cities Wins Shootout With Peoria

After the River Bandits plated a first inning run, the Peoria Chiefs got to Joe Kelly for three runs in the bottom of the inning but the Bandits battled back in the end to prevail 9-8 in the seesaw match at O'Brien Field.

Quad Cities Stuns Fort Wayne With 13 Run Offensive Explosion

The Quad Cities River Bandits had an impressive offensive output in their rout of the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Saturday night. The Bandits took the series opener 13-5 over the Fort Wayne adding to their Western Division leading 13-7 record.

There never was a question in Quad-Cities manager Johnny Rodriguez's mind that Alan Ahmady could hit the baseball.

Quad Cities River Bandits Lack Offensive Firepower & Fall To Burlington 4-1

The Quad Cities River Bandits fell behind 2-0 early to the Burlington Bees and were not able to muster much of an offensive attack on Sunday night, losing 4-1. The Bandits only had three hits in the game while the Bees plated four runs on five hits.

The Cardinals farm system went 4-5 as Allen Craig, Donovan Solano, Andrew Brown, Jose Garcia, Thomas Eager, Colt Sedbrook, Kevin Thomas, Trey Hearne, Ramon Delgado, Ivan Castro, Justin Edwards, Angel DeJesus, Deimer Bier, Roberto Canache, and Carlos Matias starred on Saturday.

Quad Cities River Bandits Take Rain-Shortened Game 3-2

It only took six innings for the Bandits to take their second straight from the Lansing Lugnuts and their third straight overall on the road trip. Rain forced the game to be called with the Bandits leading 3-2 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Springfield scored ten in fourth inning of rain-shortened game. After tying, Palm Beach gives up game in ninth. Quad Cities’ late comeback not enough in second straight loss. VSL Cardinals score seven in final two frames for second win behind Jem Argenal. Cardinals have eyes on Latin prospects.

Ejections Spark Late Inning Rally

Quad Cities dropped the continuation of Tuesday's series opener 9-7, before taking the second game 10-9. The Bandits trailed most of the way in game two leading up to the ejection of manager Johnny Rodriguez in the fifth inning. Outfielder Devin Shepherd was then tossed in the sixth sparking eight Bandit runs in the final two innings of game two, giving the Bandits the one run edge.

One late rally led to another Wednesday at Fox Cities Stadium, where Quad-Cities and Wisconsin split a Midwest League twin bill.
