Danny Ardoin To Be Removed From Dodgers' 40-Man Roster
Another roster spot expected to become available is that of backup catcher Danny Ardoin. He is out of options and almost certainly will not make the Major League club with Russell Martin and Brad Ausmus on the team. Ardoin would either be claimed by another club or outrighted to Triple-A, but won't remain on the 40-man roster.

Danny Ardoin Finding No Room With Dodgers
Remember Danny Ardoin?
The Dodgers apparently don't. The journeyman backup catcher took over as workhorse Russell Martin's seldom-used caddy last year when Gary Bennett got a case of the throwing yips and a foot injury. Ardoin, in his 10th organization over 14 professional seasons, was called up May 20 and finished out the year with the big league club.

Ex-Cardinals Watch 10-1-08: Playoff Rosters Being Set, More 2008 Round-Ups, Eckstien Possible Coaching Replacement
Jeff Suppan & Russell Branyan(Brewers):
The Brewers settled on a 25-man roster for the National League Division Series on Tuesday, and the 25th man was as surprised as anybody.
Nelson Makes Brewers' NLDS Roster
Dan Haren(Diamondbacks):
Co-aces Brandon Webb and Dan Haren anchored a starting rotation that gave the team solid outings night in and night out.
D-Backs Start With Sizzle, End With Fizzle
Danny Ardoin(Dodgers):
Danny Ardoin is the backup catcher.
Furcal To Start, Bat Leadoff For Dodgers
Rick Eckstein(Nationals):
With Rick Eckstein promoted to the big leagues in late August, there is speculation that he will be the new hitting coach, but the Nationals declined to comment. Eckstein has become a popular figure in the Major and Minor Leagues. He is credited for teaching Ryan Langerhans how to hit again, and for getting Kory Casto back on the radar screen in the organization.
Nats Begin Search For New Coaches
Jaime Moyer & So Taguchi(Phillies):
Sitting at his locker after Sunday's final regular-season game, Phillies left-hander J.A. Happ made himself available, just in case.
Happ Part Of Phillies' Playoff Roster
J.D. Drew(RedSox):
With J.D. Drew and Mike Lowell still in the midst of the Red Sox's workout session, manager Terry Francona wasn't ready to divulge whether the two ailing players would be returning to his lineup for Game 1 of the American League Division Series against the Angels.
Francona Mum On Game 1 Lineup
Edgar Renteria(Tigers):
Edgar Renteria seemingly aged several years upon arrival in Detroit, and his limited range and arm at shortstop became the symbol for a defense that gave away too many outs.

Ex-Cardinals Watch 9-20-08: A's All 40 Team, Bennett Still Out, Drew May Miss Playoffs, Suppan Hit Hard After Short Rest, Polanco Ejected
Oakland Athletics:
The A's asked their fans to vote online throughout the season to determine the best players during the club's 40 years in the East Bay, and five of them will be on hand Sunday when the 40th Anniversary Team is formally unveiled before the last home game of the season.
A's All-40 Team To Be Unveiled
Jeff Suppan(Brewers):
Suppan's September swoon, after a 5-0 August, begged the question of whether he's banged up. He spent two weeks on the disabled list in July with joint irritation in his right elbow.
Cincinnati Leaves Crew Cringing
Gary Bennett(Dodgers):
Speaking of catchers, Gary Bennett's left foot was in a walking boot after undergoing shock-wave therapy for plantar fasciitis.
Dodgers Have Mixed News On Injuries
J.D. Drew(RedSox):
The one thing Red Sox right fielder J.D. Drew had been during his lengthy absence from the lineup was optimistic. But Drew, who has been on the shelf with a troublesome lower back since Aug. 18, is finding that more difficult with each frustrating day.
Drew Dejected Over Balky Back
With J.D. Drew's back continuing to be problematic, Red Sox manager Terry Francona said that no decisions will be made on the next course of action until the team returns to Boston on Monday.
No Decision On Drew As Of Yet
Placido Polanco(Tigers):
Once they were yelling at each other, others rushed Martinez to keep him from getting any closer. Placido Polanco was the first, eventually knocking Martinez before Ordonez and Miguel Cabrera blocked the catcher.
Four Ejected In Tigers-Tribe Fracas

David Eckstein(Diamondbacks):
Replacing a three-time Gold Glove Award winner is no small task, but David Eckstein is trying his best to fill in capably at second base for Orlando Hudson.
Eckstein Readapting To Second Base
Danny Ardoin(Dodgers):
Two weeks after trailing the D-backs by 4 1/2 games in the National League West, the Dodgers entered play Sunday leading by 4 1/2 games and looking for a sweep of the Rockies.
Martin Gets Scheduled Day Off
Joe Nelson(Marlins):
It's manager Fredi Gonzalez's fault that right-hander Joe Nelson didn't get the save in Sunday's 8-7 victory over Washington.
Nelson Cramps Up, Loses Chance To Save
J.D. Drew(RedSox):
J.D. Drew will make the trip, but after getting an injection in his back Friday, he's not likely to be available to play until this Friday in Toronto according to a report in the Providence Journal.

Steve Kline(Retired):
Pitching coach Steve Kline? That is what the former reliever wants to do and said he would love to work for the Giants. The team might be interested in hiring him as an instructor.

He pitched for the Giants in 2006 and 2007, was released at the end of spring training and signed a Triple-A contract with the Phillies. He struggled at Lehigh Valley, Pa., and was released after a blowup with an umpire.
Kline Retires

Jeff Weaver(Brewers):
As part of the free-agent deal Jeff Weaver signed with the Brewers, if the team doesn't call him up by Sunday, he can ask for his release. But it is iffy if that will happen since Weaver has done almost nothing to show he is a better option than anyone in the Brewers current rotation.

Jim Edmonds(Cubs):
Jim Edmonds has three hits in 20 at-bats since joining the Cubs, and it's a little early to judge what the outfielder can do, manager Lou Piniella said Tuesday.
Edmonds Getting Time To Find Form

Cubs Beat Dodgers 3-1
Hendry felt it was a safe risk since it was low-cost and Edmonds is a proven playoff performer. But Edmonds has done nothing to disprove the assessment of most scouts and everyone in the general vicinity of San Diego that he's no longer a viable hitter. Hendry asked not to make "knee-jerk" reactions to Edmonds, but it's hard to see this one going on much longer, barring a sudden turnaround.
