The Best Hometown Draft Pick For All 30 Teams

Rickey Henderson to the A's. Cal Ripken Jr. to the Orioles. Barry Larkin to the Reds. It's not uncommon to see a team go with a hometown kid in the Draft.

Looking For The Nest Jeff Bagwell & Craig Biggio: Players With One-Team Careers

Being a baseball fan sometimes feel like just rooting for laundry, as Jerry Seinfeld once derisively put it. The routine heartbreak of watching your favorite players leave your favorite team and wear alien uniforms is an agonizing rite of passage. Even in the days before free agency, teams regularly sent their best players packing, often for no nobler reason than cost savings. (Like how Cleveland got cursed for chucking away Rocky Colavito.)

Cardinals Floated Michael Wacha's Name Out In Trade Discussions; Cubs Looking Into Kenley Jansen

The Cardinals have floated right-hander Michael Wacha’s name in trade discussions, sources say, but it’s unlikely they would get much for a pitcher who has a history of shoulder trouble and had a 5.09 ERA in 138 innings last season.

Red Sox Expected To Make Strong Push For David Price

What the Red Sox lack, of course, is a proven No. 1 starter. President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski hasn’t been shy about saying he plans to land an ace this winter. And assuming he’s able to talk principal owner John Henry into relaxing his aversion to long-term contracts for pitchers in their 30s, the widespread belief within the industry is Dombrowski will make a strong push for free agent David Price. Dombrowski traded for Price during the 2014 season while with the Detroit Tigers, and the lefty wouldn’t cost the Sox their first-round draft pick as compensation for the signing.

Albert Pujols, Angels Maintain Struggles With RISP

Even amid victory late Thursday night, with the glow of an uplifting comeback still very raw, Angels manager Mike Scioscia sensed troubling signs from his reeling ballclub. They were still having a hard time scoring early, still getting dominated by opposing starters they should hit, and Scioscia stressed the importance of scoring early runs to relieve some of the pressure.

Series Preview: Cardinals @ White Sox (July 21-22, 2015)

The White Sox beat the Cardinals in both games of a series three weeks ago in St. Louis, but this time neither lefthanded ace Chris Sale nor lefthander Jose Quintana will start these games. Instead, the White Sox will run out two more lefthanders — rookie Carlos Rodon, their top draft pick in last year’s draft, and John Danks.

Sifting Through Cardinals Options To Replace Adam Wainwright

Losing Adam Wainwright for an extended period of time – which is what we're all anticipating the Cardinals will say – is far from ideal. However, if there is an organization in baseball better equipped to handle the loss of someone so good, it's the Redbirds.
KMOV

The biggest question about how the Cardinals will replace their ace, Adam Wainwright, in the starting rotation for the rest of the season is not merely about who takes his place on the pitching mound every fifth day.
STL Sports Page

As the Cardinals are forced to face the reality of playing out the rest of the 2015 season without Adam Wainwright, attention now turns to filling his vacant spot in the rotation.

Jeff Samardzija Seems Destined For Free Agency, But The Trade Was Worth It

The White Sox will tell you there were two big benefits to acquiring big right-hander Jeff Samardzija. First and most obviously, he is one of the better righty starters in baseball, and he should help them immensely in their realistic quest to get back to contention. Second, when they acquired him in a six-player trade from Oakland they received an exclusive 11-month window to try to lock him up to a long-term deal.
