The White Sox will tell you there were two big benefits to acquiring big right-hander Jeff Samardzija. First and most obviously, he is one of the better righty starters in baseball, and he should help them immensely in their realistic quest to get back to contention. Second, when they acquired him in a six-player trade from Oakland they received an exclusive 11-month window to try to lock him up to a long-term deal.
