What the Red Sox lack, of course, is a proven No. 1 starter. President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski hasn’t been shy about saying he plans to land an ace this winter. And assuming he’s able to talk principal owner John Henry into relaxing his aversion to long-term contracts for pitchers in their 30s, the widespread belief within the industry is Dombrowski will make a strong push for free agent David Price. Dombrowski traded for Price during the 2014 season while with the Detroit Tigers, and the lefty wouldn’t cost the Sox their first-round draft pick as compensation for the signing.
