When Did Cardinals Pitchers Last Have Such Great Back-To-Back Starts?
The Cardinals bullpen in 2018 has been pretty bad. We don't want to name names, but as a collective group they rank in the bottom third of the NL in fWAR, ERA, FIP, xFIP, and a lot of other things. Luckily for all involved, they got a much needed reprieve the last two games and were only needed to get four outs. And during that time, one of their relievers threw a ball over 105 mph. So while short on WAR, they are not a unit bereft of entertainment.

Jordan Hicks Brings The Heat Back To St. Louis
A lot happened in baseball on Sunday, all over the map. Shohei Ohtani won again, and struck out nine more batters for the Angels. The Braves scored six in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Marlins. Mookie Betts continued to lead the league in everything except points per game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. But something else happened in baseball, which still makes us think that on any one trip to the ballpark we might see something we've never seen before:

Jordan Hicks Throws Five Fastest Pitches In Baseball This Season -- All To One Better
Maybe it was Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera stepping in and out of the batter’s box. Maybe it was the standing ovation that Cardinals starter Jack Flaherty was getting while Jordan Hicks came in from the bullpen in the eighth inning. Maybe it was the 103.2 mile per hour pitch he threw on Saturday.

'One Of The Best Starts We've Seen In A Long Time'; Jack Flaherty On His Latest Opportunity With Cardinals
You never like to see a guy get hurt, especially a beloved veteran like Adam Wainwright. For all the memorable moments and dominant seasons Waino has delivered as a Cardinal, his numbers just haven’t been the same since a freak Achilles injury in 2015.

Jordan Hicks Ties Fastest Pitch In MLB History With 105 MPH Pitch
St. Louis Cardinals reliever Jordan Hicks has matched Aroldis Chapman's mark for the fastest pitch in recorded baseball history
KSDK
If you're wondering how Jordan Hicks can add 2 mph to what was already a 103-mph sinker, you're not alone. Hicks' manager and teammates -- along with the rest of the baseball world -- were asking the same question after the 21-year-old twice eclipsed 105 mph with his fastball in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Phillies.
