Alberto Castillo (Orioles):
The Orioles use the first day of September to expand their roster and flesh out some of the weaker elements of their team. Baltimore dipped down to Triple-A Norfolk to add reserve outfielder Jeff Fiorentino and relievers Matt Albers, Dennis Sarfate and Alberto Castillo for the final month of the season.

Felipe Lopez (Brewers):
Felipe Lopez was named the Brewers' player of the month for August and Trevor Hoffman won pitcher of the month honors. Lopez batted a team-best .325 and also led the way with 20 runs scored, 37 hits and 11 doubles. Hoffman converted all six of his save chances with a 1.64 ERA in 11 appearances.

Jeff Suppan (Brewers):
Major League Baseball won't make it official until Wednesday, but the Brewers announced that Jeff Suppan was the team's nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award for the third straight season. The award recognizes community service and sportsmanship.

Kevin Mulvey (Diamondbacks):
The D-backs claimed Kevin Mulvey off waivers from the Twins' organization and will send cash considerations to Minnesota for the right-hander. He was expected to arrive at Dodger Stadium after game time. In a separate but related move, the D-backs announced they will receive cash considerations from the Twins, who claimed D-backs right-hander Jon Rauch on waivers on Aug. 28.

Edgar Gonzalez (Padres):
The Padres added two players to their roster before Tuesday's game. Infielder Edgar Gonzalez was reinstated from the disabled list and catcher Eliezer Alfonzo was recalled from Triple-A Portland. The Padres' roster is now at 27. The Padres will use three catchers the rest of the season, giving manager Bud Black some in-game flexibility.

Right-hander Joe Nelson was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Rodriguez.

J.D. Drew (Red Sox):
Billy Wagner turned in a dominant seventh inning (two strikeouts) in his second outing for Boston. The offense applied steady pressure, backed by home runs from J.D. Drew (seventh in the past 19 games), Jason Bay (No. 30) and Kevin Youkilis.

Randy Flores (Rockies):
The others spent time with the Rockies earlier this season. They are right-handed reliever Joel Peralta (0-3, 5.85 ERA in 22 games), left-hander Randy Flores (0-0, 5.63 ERA in 16 games) and catcher Paul Phillips (.325, one homer, seven RBIs in 13 games).
