When Ozzie Smith performed backflips while heading to his position before the start of Cardinals home openers, postseason contests and All-Star Games, it was as if he were saying, “Let the fun begin.”

Another Favorite Moment
It POURED on the morning of October 14, 1985. Game five of the NLCS between the Cardinals and the Dodgers didn’t start until late afternoon, but in the morning, it was raining hard. I remember because I had to go downtown to work for something early, at about 9:00, and I got a flat tire. I had a 1984 red Honda CRX, a tiny little car, and somehow on 40 near McKnight my right front tire went flat. So, I pulled over, changed it, got soaked, and went on my merry way.

A February Trade Helped The Cardinals Reel In Ozzie Smith, The Best Defensive Shortstop Of All Time
On Oct. 20, 1982, the Cardinals won their ninth World Series title in seven games over the Brewers. One of the biggest reasons for their success was a trade that GM and manager Whitey Herzog had finalized just eight months prior.

Why Jack Clark Got Chance To Put Cardinals In World Series
If Tommy Lasorda had ordered Tom Niedenfuer to intentionally walk Jack Clark in the ninth inning of Game 6 in the National League Championship Series, Brian Harper likely would have been facing Jerry Reuss with the outcome on the line.

Cardinals Have 1,026-1025 All-Time Edge On Dodgers As Two Of NL's Best Meet
Since 1892, when Brooklyn and St. Louis first played in the National League together, the rivalry has been about as close as is humanly possible. In 123 previous seasons, counting postseason play, Brooklyn/Los Angeles has won 1,025 games. St. Louis has won 1,026.

Jerry Reuss Fondly Recalls St. Louis
Like David Freese a few decades later, Jerry Reuss knows what it’s like to be a hometown kid wearing the St. Louis Cardinals jersey. Drafted out of Ritenour High School in 1967, the left-hander began his 22-year big league career with the Cardinals and won 22 games for St. Louis before he was traded to Houston–over wanting a few thousand dollars more in salary or having a mustache.

Twitterverse Has Fun With Cardinals Debacle
Well, Game 3 of the NLCS was some spectacle. The Cardinals pitched well, as usual, but they did not hit, field or run the bases especially well.

Mid-1980's Playoff Baseball Had No Equal
Seriously, when did we ever see a run of iconic postseason moments like we had in the mid-1980s?
Now I tend to overrate the 1980s because that was the decade where I matured as a baseball fan, and my Hall of Fame picks have a definite pro-1980s slant. But I do not think I am seeing things through rose-colored Ray Bans.
