Albuquerque Finishes Homestand With 4-3 Win Over Memphis

The Albuquerque Isotopes (18-12) got some solid pitching and just enough offense to defeat the Memphis Redbirds (11-19) 4-3 on a blustery Monday afternoon at Isotopes Park. With the triumph, the 'Topes end up with a series victory over the 'Birds, taking three out of four contests, and finish their just-completed eight-game homestand with five wins.

The Redbirds scored early and fought through a 6-4 victory as they snapped their five-game losing streak with their first win over Albuquerque.

Memphis Nips Albuquerque 6-4

The Albuquerque Isotopes (17-12) fell into a hole early and couldn't escape, falling to the Memphis Redbirds (11-18) in a sloppy 6-4 loss on a glorious Mother's Day Sunday at Isotopes Park. In addition to the scheduled 'Topes game, the day also featured a pre-game celebrity softball game and the team's first-ever "Bark In The Park".

Questions Facing Clubs As Spring Draws Near

St. Louis made the major move to retain outfielder Matt Holliday during the offseason, but the only other addition was right-hander Brad Penny. That leaves the Cardinals depending on St. Louis native David Freese at third base. If he doesn't make it, where do they turn? There isn't a player returning who started 10 games at third base for the Cardinals last year.

Rockies Consider Todd Wellemeyer For Pitching Depth

The Rockies have turned their attention to right-hander Todd Wellemeyer in their effort to add pitching depth. Wellemeyer has expressed an interest in starting and while the Rockies will go to spring training with a projected rotation of Ubaldo Jimenez, Aaron Cook, Jorge De La Rosa, Jason Hammel and Jeff Francis, the only experienced alternatives coming to spring training if a need arises are lefty Greg Smith and right-hander Tim Redding.
