Week In Review:

Cardinals Blue beat Nationals 3-2:  The Cardinals took the lead from the Nationals in the fourth and held on to win.  Enmanuel Solano pitched a strong six innings only allowing two hits and one earned run (home run) while striking out six.  Walks became the game changer for the Redbirds as they only collected one hit but received five free passes and a hit by pitch.

Cardinals Red beat Diamondbacks Two 9-3:  The Redbirds took an early lead and padded it real well in the fifth for the victory.  Miguel Maiz followed the Cardinals' opener with two scoreless frames, striking out three.  Hector De Los Santos finished off the contest striking out four over the final two innings.  Adanson Cruz collected two singles, one double, and four RBIs.

Mets One beat Cardinals Blue 10-7:  The Mets jumped out to an early lead with six runs in the second but the Cardinals attempted to comeback in the final inning.  Angel Cuenca followed the Redbirds opener with three and a third scoreless frames.  Leonardo Taveras pitched two scoreless after Cuenca.  Freddy DeJesus doubled, walked, homered, and drove in three runs on the offensive side.

Tigers One beat Cardinals Red 8-6:  Tigers put five runs on the scoreboard in the first five frames and held on to win despite handing out 11 walks.  Roy Garcia pitched two and two-thirds innings of middle relief, striking out five and allowing two hits and one run.  Francisco Hernandez collected two singles and one RBI.

Cardinals Blue beat Mets One 8-4:  The Cardinals scored seven runs in the first five frames while keeping the Mets off the scoreboard.  Hector Soto struck out six and allowed five hits and three runs in the five and a third innings for the start.  Saniel Santana struck out the final batter of the game and held all three inherited runners on base for the save.  Darlyn Del Villar singled and hit a solo home run in the third inning.

Tigers One beat Cardinals Red 4-3:  The Cardinals held the lead until the eighth inning as the bullpen failed to hold on.  Wilfredo Pereira struck out seven and allowed five hits and one run in the seven-inning start.  Francisco Hernandez tripled and drove in two runs.

Cardinals Blue beat Yankees 16-9:  Both teams totaled eight errors that played a big role during the contest and the Redbirds racked up a total of 17 hits.  Dionis Zamora struck out a career-high ten batters despite the five unearned runs scored on him in the five and two-thirds inning start.  Pablo Gomez singled, doubled, homered, and drove in three runs.  Yowelfy Rosario added one double, one triple, and three RBIs.

Rangers Two beat Cardinals Red 10-1:  The Cardinals offense was almost non-existent as they put out only two hits and three of five hurlers coughed up two or more runs.  Rodard Avelino struck out three and held three inherited runners on base over one and a third hitless/scoreless frames.  Adanson Cruz reached base twice on a single and walk.

Cardinals Blue beat Yankees 6-5:  The Yankees scored first and held the lead until the sixth and fell to the Cardinals.  Julio Puello struck out seven and allowed four hits and one run over the final four frames.  Freddy DeJesus singled, doubled, walked, and drove in two runs.

Rangers Two beat Cardinals Red 7-3:  The Cardinals ended their scoreless streak in the first but the bullpen collapsed in the eighth.  Jose Geronimo followed the Redbirds starter holding two inherited runners on base while walking one batter and striking out the other.  Sander Mora, Adanson Cruz, and Joyser Garcia each knocked in a run on no hits.

Cardinals Blue beat Rockies 17-13: Each team's bats beat on the other clubs' pitchers during the contest as the Cardinals roared back from being down in the earlier innings.  Saniel Santana and Leonardo Taveras combined to the final two innings without allowing a run.  Jean Selmo doubled, tripled, walked, and drove in five runs.  Darlyn Del Villar added a triple and three RBIs.

Brewers beat Cardinals Red 14-5:  The Cardinals started was coasting along until the fourth and then the Brewers turned it up scoring two or more runs in the final five frames.  Luis Andujar doubled and drove in two runs.

Who's Hot:

Freddy DeJesus (Blue) has a 13-game on base streak which includes connecting for a hit in five consecutive contests.  The 18-year old right-handed hitter went 10-for-23 (.435) with five doubles, one home run, seven RBIs (five w/two-outs), six runs, five walks, two hit by pitches, and six strikeouts.  He played five games at first base (assisted in three double plays) and one as designated hitter.  The September 6, 2016 free agent signing leads the team in walks and is tied for team-lead in doubles, home runs, and RBIs.

Gabriel Contreras (Red) is still struggling with his control.  The 17-year old showed better in his second career appearance on June 12th, when he lasted a full inning and allowed two hits, one earned run, one walk, and struck two out.  On June 14th, he gave up one hit, three earned runs, two walks, hit tow batters, threw five wild pitches, and struck one out over two-thirds of an inning.

Roy Garcia (Red) has allowed at least one run in each of his four appearances this season.  The 17-year old right-hander pitched on June 12th and gave up two hits, one unearned run, one walk, threw one wild pitch, and struck out a career-high five over two and two-thirds innings.  He allowed three hits, five earned runs, four walks, threw two wild pitches, and struck out one over one and two-thirds innings on June 16th.

Wilman Madera (Red) has given up two or more runs in his last two appearances.  The 19-year old right-hander was called from the bullpen on June 12th and gave up three hits, two earned runs, hit one batter, and struck four out (tied career-high).  He then made his first carer start on June 16th, where he went three and two-thirds innings and allowed five hits, three runs (one earned), one walk, and struck three out.  He had a ground out-to-fly out ratio of 7-to-1 and held all three inherited runners on base.

Darlin Moquete (Blue) has not connected for a hit in four consecutive games.  The 18-year old right-handed hitter went 0-for-10 (.000) with two runs, two walks, one hit by pitch, one stolen base, and one strikeout.  He played two games in right field (one fielding error) and one at second base (one missed catch error).

Jesus Orecchia (Red) managed to end his hitless streak at three games but has only connected for a hit in two of his last six contests.  The 17-year old right-handed hitter went 1-for-12 (.083) with one double, two runs, three walks, and five strikeouts.  He played four games behind the plate where he threw out one of six base runners and picked off two.

Inohan Paniagua (Blue) for a second consecutive start could not get of the second inning.  The 18-year old right-hander started on June 12th and went one and two-thirds innings giving up six hits, six earned runs, hit one batter, and struck two out for the losing decision (0-1).  He had a ground out-to-fly out ratio of 1-to-0.  The December 22, 2017 free agent signing currently owns the worst ERA on the team at 27.00.

Anthony Trompiz (Blue) was hammered in his last appearance of the past week.  The 20-year old right-hander pitched on June 11th, allowing two hits, no runs, one walk, and struck one out over one inning for the hold.  Then on June 16th, he faced nine batters and coughed up six hits, six runs (five earned), and struck one out.  He had a ground out-to-fly out ratio of 3-to-0.

Angel Cuenca and Dionys Rodriguez were transferred from the Red squad to Blue team.

Dionis Zamora (Blue), Wilfredo Pereira (Red), Jose Geronimo (Red), and Enmanuel Solano (Blue) were all promoted from the Dominican Summer League to the Gulf Coast League.

Zamora made 24 appearances (six starts) posting a 4-4 record, 2.39 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, and converted six of eight save opportunities.  He allowed 48 hits, 24 runs (14 earned), one home run, 25 walks, hit three batters, and struck 61 out over 52.2 innings.

Pereira made 32 appearances (12 starts) posting a 3-8 record, 2.66 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and blew two saves.  He allowed 101 hits, 39 runs (29 earned), one home run, 28 walks, hit five batters, and struck 76 out over 98 innings.

Geronimo made 21 relief appearances posting a 1-5 record, 6.00 ERA, 1.83 WHIP, and blew three saves.  He allowed 20 hits, 22 runs (16 earned), 24 walks, hit one batter, and struck 21 out over 24 innings.

Solano made 26 appearances (12 starts) posting a 7-3 record, 3.86 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and one save.  He allowed 81 hits, 52 runs (38 earned), two home runs, 17 walks, hit 11 batters, and struck 66 out over 88.2 innings.

Joyser Garca (Red) only played in two games and Cristhian Longa (Red) in one.  Augusto Calderon has been out of action since June 6th and Luis Tena (Blue) since June 9th.

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals Blue started off the season with a bang as they won five of their first seven contests.  The Blue are currently tied for second place in the South Division and are one game out of first place.  They have a 2-2 record defending home and 3-0 on the road.

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals Red started off the season season on the slower side as they lost four of their first seven games and finished the week off on a two-game losing streak.  The Red are tied for fifth place in the San Pedro Division and are two games out of first place.  They are 2-1 at home and 1-3 when visiting.

Week In Review:

Cardinals Blue beat Twins 15-5:  The Cardinals collected 13 hits and 12 walks, scoring 14 runs in the first two innings.  Luis Rodriguez lead the way with a grand slam and a couple more RBIs.  Darlyn Del Villar added one triple, one home run, two walks, and three RBIs.  Dionis Zamora struck out four, walked three, and allowed one run over five innings in the start.

Cubs Two beat Cardinals Red 6-5:  The Cardinals took the lead in the fourth but the bullpen couldn't hang on by the seventh.  Jose Geronimo struck out one over the final two hitless/scoreless innings for the Cardinals.  Joerlin De Los Santos singled, doubled, walked twice, and drove in one run.

Twins beat Cardinals Blue 15-4:  The tide changed in the second game of the series as the Cardinals racked up seven errors and both pitching and hitting struggled.  Darlin Moquete singled, doubled, walked, and drove in one run.  Francis Ventura started and was removed after nine batters.  He gave up four hits, seven runs (five earned), and one walk.

Cardinals Red beat Cubs Two 5-4:  The Cardinals jumped out in front in the first inning and held on to win, with the help of the Cubs errors.  Ludwin Jimenez struck out eight and allowed three hits and two runs (one home run) over five innings.  Nelson Prada pitched three scoreless innings of relief and struck out four.  Jesus Orecchia doubled, walked, and knocked in two runs.

Cardinals Blue beat Phillies Red 16-7:  The Cardinals scored 16 runs on 16 hits and three walks, with six coming in the first inning and seven in the sixth.  Diowill Burgos and Jose Zapata each drove in three runs and Carlos Soler, Jean Selmo, and Pablo Gomez each added two RBIs a piece.

Phillies White beat Cardinals Red 10-9:  The contest came down to the wire, with errors playing a major factor, but the Phillies pulled it off in the end.  Adanson Cruz and Francisco Hernandez each contributed two RBIs a piece.

Cardinals Blue beat Phillies Red 13-10:  Both teams exchanged multiple run innings throughout the contest and each racked up a fair share of errors.  Darlyn Del Villar singled, doubled twice, walked, and drove in two runs.  Yowelfy Roasrio collected two singles, one double, and two RBIs.  Inohan Paniagua started and lasted just six batters.

Cardinals Red beat Phillies White 15-11:  The Cardinals Red showed they too could score like the blue squad.  The Redbirds took on and held the lead throughout the contest and nearly coughed it up in the later innings.  Joyser Garcia collects two singled and three RBIs.  Franklin Soto had three singles, one double, and two RBIs.  Angel Cuenca pitched three innings of scoreless relief for the winning decision.

Cardinal Blue beat Angels 10-6:  The Cardinals came from behind, taking advantage of errors committed by the Angels to win.  Freddy DeJesus hit a grand slam in the sixth inning and Diomedes Del Rio hit a two-run shot in the same frame.  Hector Soto racked up seven strike out despite giving up four hits and three runs in the five inning start.

Cardinals Red beat Mets Two 10-5:  The Cardinals came from behind to double up the Mets, taking advantage of a handful of errors.  Franklin Soto singled, tripled, and drove in four runs.  Claudio Ramirez hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning.  Hector De Los Santos pitched three scoreless innings for the winning decision.

Cardinals Blue beat Angels 10-0:  Julio Puello, Leonardo Taveras, and Freddy Pacheco combined for the three-hit, three-walk, and 13 strikeout shutout.  Jean Selmo singled, doubled, walked, and drove in three runs.  Leudy Pena hit a two-run homer in the second and Darlyn Del Villar added two singles, one double, one walk, and two RBIs.

Mets Two beat Cardinals Red 7-6:  Another close game by the Red squad, but they just couldn't hold on.  Jose Moreno struck out seven but did allow four runs over the five inning start.  Luis Montano singled, tripled, and drove in two runs on the offense side.

Nationals beat Cardinals Blue 20-6:  Francis Ventura was off to a good start and seemed to wear out in the fifth.  The Nationals kept hammering away at the Cardinals pitching for the remainder of the contest.  Yowefly Rosario singled, tripled, walked, and drove in one run as the offense highlight.  Freddy DeJesus was give the free pass three times and also added an RBI.

Diamondbacks Two beat Cardinals Red 2-1:  Both pitching staffs were on their game, but errors bit the Redbirds in the end.  Ludwin Jimenez struck out seven over the four inning start and Luis Ortiz followed with another scoreless four innings.  Claudio Ramirez doubled, walked, and drove in the only run.


Who's Hot:

Darlyn Del Villar (Blue) has a five-game hit streak which includes scoring a run and walking in last four consecutive contests.  The 17-year old right-handed hitter went 10-for-24 (.417) with four doubles, five RBIs (two w/two-outs), eight runs, nine walks, and three strikeouts.  He played six games at shortstop where he assisted in four double plays and committed five errors (three fielding and two throwing).

Pablo Gomez (Blue) has connected for a hit in each of his seven games and nine if including last season.  The 18-year old right-handed hitter went 10-for-33 (.303) with three doubles, one triple, six RBIs, seven runs, one walk, three stolen bases, seven strikeouts, one caught stealing, and grounded into one double play.  He played six games at second base (assisted in four double plays and one throwing error) and one game at third base.

Ludwin Jimenez (Red) made two solid starts this past week.  The 16-year old right-hander started on June 4th and allowed three hits, two runs (one earned), one home run, one walk, hit one batter, threw one wild pitch, and struck eight out.  He gave up two hits, no runs, one walk, threw one wild pitch, and struck seven out over four innings on June 9th.

Luis Montano (Red) has a seven-game on base streak to extend in the next period.  The 18-year old left-handed hitter went 9-for-26 (.346) with one triple, four RBIs, nine runs, four walks, one hit by pitch, one sac fly, nine strikeouts, and two caught stealing.  He played seven games in right field with one outfield assist and one throwing error.

Yowelfy Roasio (Blue) has a six-game hit and run scored streak and has drove in a run in last two contests.  The 18-year old right-handed hitter went 13-for-29 (.448) with four doubles, four triples, five RBIs (four w/two-outs), six runs, four walks, one hit by pitch, two stolen bases, and seven strikeouts.  He played six games at third base (two throwing errors) and one at shortstop.

Jean Selmo (Blue) has a three-game hit streak which includes a double and RBI in each contest.  The 18-year old right-handed hitter went 6-for-11 (.545) with three doubles, six RBIs (three w/two-outs), three runs, two walks, one stolen base, and three strikeouts.  He played two games at first base and one in left field.

Carlos Soler (Blue) has a four-game on base streak to extend in the next period.  The 18-year old left-handed hitter went 9-for-25 (.360) with two triples, one home run, eight RBIs (three w/two-outs), eight runs, six walks, one sac fly, and six walks.  He played five games in center field (three outfield assists and one fielding error) and one as designated hitter.

Who's Not:

Rodard Avelino (Red) coughed up two runs in each of his two appearances.  The 19-year old right-hander was called from the bullpen on June 4th and pitched to five batter without recording an out.  He allowed two hits, two earned runs, three walks, and threw one wild pitch.  On June 8th, he gave up one hit, two earned runs, three walks, and threw two wild pitches.  The July 2, 2016 had a ground out-to-fly out ratio of 2-to-0.

Allinson Benitez (Red) picked up where he left off last season.  The 18-year old right-hander started on June 5th and allowed four hits four runs (two earned), and three walks.  He had a ground out-to-fly out ratio of 4-to-1.

Dionys Rodriguez (Blue) gave up at least one run in each of his three relief appearances.  The 17-year old left-hander made his pro debut on June 4th as he pitched 1.2 innings an allowed one hit, two runs (one earned), four walks, and struck two out.  June 6th, he gave up two hits, one earned run, threw one wild pitch, and struck one out over one inning.  The May 18, 2018 free agent signing made his third appearance on June 9th and pitched to six batters and allowed one hit, three earned runs, three walks, and struck one out.  He did earn a save in the second appearance, had a ground out-to-fly out ratio of 3-to-0, and let all three inherited runners score.

Francis Ventura (Blue) got off too an ugly start in his first opening but improved a little in his second.  The 18-year old right-hander lasted nine batters before four hits, seven runs (five earned), one walk, and two hit batters forced the Cardinals to pull him on June 4th.  Then on June 9th, he cruised along until his final inning, as he gave up seven hits, five runs (three earned), two walks, threw one wild pitch, and struck three out over five innings.  The August 3, 2015 free agent signing took the loss in both appearances and had a ground out-to-fly out ratio of 7-to-4.
