The St. Louis Cardinals will have a strong bullpen already in 2020 but Angel Rondon could be a player who comes out of nowhere to have an impact.

The coverage and box scores spilling out of the Tampa Bay Rays’ spring training provided confirmation for the most consistent thing I heard year after year about a young, speedy, Cuban outfielder scaling his way toward the Cardinals.

Andrew Miller Doesn't Have A 'Feel' For The Ball; Kwang-Hyun Kim Has Groin Issue; Coronavirus Concerns; Matt Carpenter Is Back
Of the three lefthanders slated to pitch in the first half of the Cardinals’ game Monday with the Minnesota Twins, the one who you might think would have the most problems was Brett Cecil. But he threw a scoreless inning and fired 16 strikes out of his 22 pitches in the Redbirds’ 6-1 exhibition win.

Cardinals Could Explore Trades At Winter Meetings
While some teams have made splashes this offseason, it’s been quiet so far for the Cardinals. Aside from signing starter Adam Wainwright to a one-year deal and a few roster-shuffling moves that included designating reliever Dominic Leone for assignment, the Cards haven’t been active in adding to their roster for 2020.

Cardinals Present John Gant With Contract, Lock-In Young Players On Roster
One of the things the Cardinals have said over and over again this offseason is how the answers to many of their questions for 2020 can be found somewhere on their roster and how that could lead to few surprises this winter.
Cardinal Beat
Right-hander John Gant was the only player the Cardinals needed to make a decision on ahead of Monday night’s non-tender deadline, and, as expected, they tendered a contract to Gant for 2020.

Offseason Outlook: Cardinals
The Cardinals had a middling 58-55 record as late as Aug. 8, yet a blistering stretch run saw St. Louis win the NL Central and end a three-year (lengthy by Cardinals standards) postseason drought. The Cards also defeated the Braves in the NLDS before falling to the Nationals in the NLCS, and the one-sided nature of that NLCS sweep continued the somewhat inconsistent nature of the Cardinals’ season. The focus will clearly be on upgrading the offense as the Cards look to take a step forward and get back to the World Series in 2020.

The Cardinals Devil Magic Ran Out
It’s not surprising that the Cardinals didn’t go all the way. Underdogs often fall short even if they’re fueled by devil magic. Of the ten teams to make it to the postseason, the Cardinals were arguably the least talented. St. Louis may have come out on top of the NL Central scrum, but they didn’t compare to some of the other division winners and even some of the Wild Card teams. At 91 wins, the Cardinals had the lowest win total in the tournament, and their base runs record put them and the Braves at 90-72, five games behind the Nationals and a full 20 wins worse than the Dodgers.
