The first time Trejyn Fletcher took the field as a suddenly draft-eligible senior was only the third time Deering High’s club had been outside all spring. The 21 scouts who gathered to scrutinize Maine’s top talent were one more than the runs Fletcher’s team allowed.

When baseball halted spring training and delayed the start of the regular season a week ago, the Cardinals were in the process making cuts from their spring training roster. The uncertainty of the next 12 hours, let alone 24 or 48 hours put a pause on the transactions until the Cardinals received direction from Major League Baseball.

Cardinals Prospect Report From Spring Training
Over the years, thoughts about the Cardinals’ farm system success often tend to lean towards pitching. The Jack Flahertys and Carlos Martinezes of the world come to mind most recently. And while there have been some bats -- particularly college ones often drafted shrewdly later in the Draft, like a Paul DeJong -- that was an area that was lagging a little bit more.

Cardinals Outfield Competition One To Watch This Spring
The biggest storyline of Cardinals camp this spring is the offense, and a subplot of that is the outfield competition. The hole in the Opening Day lineup is in the outfield, but the club believes it has the young, internal talent to fill the one or two open spots.

The Cardinals' Messy Outfield Situation
Last year’s Cardinals were successful. Thanks to a solid rotation, a good bullpen, and excellent defense and baserunning, St. Louis won the division and advanced to the NLCS. The Cardinals’ main weakness was at the plate, where they were mostly average.

These Roster Battles Are Getting Interesting
Rookies attempting to play their way onto the roster over here, veterans determined to hold on over there. All these players -- trust us, all of ‘em -- have done the numbers in their heads, and with Opening Day less than a month away, there are lots for teams to sort out in terms of who goes, who stays, etc.

If Dylan Carlson Out-Swings The Competition, Left Field Should Be His On Opening Day
Baseball is full of prospects, both large and small when it comes to capabilities. There are the AAA(A) types who stick around for a few years before flaming out or seeing their ceiling collapse. There are the ones in the middle who do well enough to stick around, make a few adjustments and use video and climb a few steps. And then there are the ones who are destined for greatness, their stock so high that even a virus can't knock it down to size.
